This is a discussion thread titled "PROPOSED GROUP BUY: S & S headers group buy", within the Group Buys forum, part of the Marketplace Forums category.
View Poll Results: Who wants in on the group buy?????
well we have 12 that are in thus far. That is cool. I know most of you want to see what Rgerdes and my thoughts are on the headers before you will put your money where your mouse is.
The #s are not skewed as I did not vote so I am not in on this.
This is pretty good so far. The poll should be up for another week or so. We will see what happens. We need 20+.

...i was originally in, but since a year ago another mod came up recently, and i am financially committed to it...otherwise i would. i will however be in as soon as $ warrants...ie next mod = these headers.
Originally posted by TMS2U I'm very very interested, but want to hear about the results with the prototypes. I'm 85% in tho as I have held off on TRD's
Just keep holding off.

Originally posted by Imdone Interesting. I am glad that the seller is putting 8 - 10 weeks for delivery since these arent even done yet. I also like the "let us know if you have a 2wd or 4wd so we can send you the proper set."
I wonder if they are S & S headers, I would think they are as this is the only company making long tube headers and it looks like he pulled some of the info right out of some of our posts.
Oh yeah, notice that there isn't a picture posted, an other interesting thing, I will be interested to see if he just swipes S & S' photo.
Hmmmmmm.
i emailed the seller and this is the response:
Hello!
These are pre-production prices, we are taking orders now, they will be available in 8-10weeks to just a few dealers, we are the only ones in the southeast area. They cannot release any pictures right now, they are on a test truck, and have gotten the ok to make more. They are long tube, so each cylinders exhaust is separated for a longer period of time, making better performance. I am trying to get as much information as I can out to my viewers!

Well, the long-tube headers will have better performance, but this is the real reason: "...The basic idea is to time the negative wave pulse reflection to coincide with the period of overlap - this low pressure helps to pull in a fresh intake charge as the intake valve is opening and helps to remove the residual exhaust gases before the exhaust valve closes. Typically this phenomenon is controlled by the length of the primary header pipe." http://www.burnsstainless.com/TechAr...ry/theory.html
The advantage of the Tri-Y design that S&S will produce is that the Y results in a later timing of the negative pressure wave trough at the port. This is beneficial both for helping the V-8 breath better when two cylinders fire in order from each bank, and at mid-range rpms.
Recall that the firing order from our V-8 engines results in exhaust discharges from the left side, right side, left, right, left, left, right, right, left, right, and so on. The tri-y helps deal with this imbalance.

I know you guys wanted to see what the headers will look like so I guess I will let you see.
These are painted black and this is the actual prototype set off my truck. S & S hasn't had the opportunity to get the photo uploaded because their webmaster hasn't been in town.
This is the link to the photo and you can see the same one in my photos.
I checked out the pic on new S&S headers. It is possible they could fit my new dual with very little work. Could you give me a distance center to center of the Y pipe (center of left tube to center of right tube), and then the length of the straight section of Y pipe (flange face to flange face). It looks close to same as stock Y pipe and if it is .....I'm in like Flynn!!
