I would like to propose an AWESOME audio group buy for Eclipse's two new multimedia head units the AVN 5435 and the AVN 5495. The NEW AVN 5435 is listed on their website (www.eclipse-web.com) and the AVN5495 is new and not on the website but information can be found in a press release here. AVN5495 is the first hard disk-based navigation introduced to overseas' markets. AVN5495 features a 30GB hard disk drive that provides 10GB for navigation database and 20GB for storage of maximum of 3,000 music files!!!Music files are automatically created from CDs by the "Music Juke" function as they are inserted and into the head unit. AVN5495 plays DVD-Video, CDs, CD-R/RWs and MP3 files.
BTW, according to member "JOEY" the steering wheel controlls and the harnesses are just plug and play. But you do need to tap a few wires.
These are awesome units (see reviews elsewhere on this site) FYI...an AVN 5435 just sold on ebay for a total cost of $1709.99...so you can see you won't find a better deal elsewhere!!
So come on folks lets all get in on this deal.....I am going for the AVN 5495!!!
since some of you have PM'd me with this question:
Also please remember the group buy rules:...just because you vote NO does NOT mean you are prevented from buying a unit....we just need 10 people to firmly commit to buy and then if we have that, and you change your mind, you can jump back in during the one week order period to purchase. SO PLEASE BE SURE TO VOTE FOR ONE of the option above!!

I am assuming that both products are fully warrantied through the dealer. If the 5495 has not been released yet, when can I expect delivery of it if I choose to purchase it?
What is the big deal about having the Navigation on a Hard Drive besides a negligible amount of speed over a DVD??? Don't the older models have a dedicated Navigation disc drive anyway?
And last but not least, can I hook my iPod up through the Unit and use it without ever having to touch the iPod? AKA iPod is controlled through the HU...

The 5495 have been released and the vendor stated he could offer them. They were released in early April as far as I know.

Some other brands do NOT have a separate drive for DVD. not sure about earlier Eclipse models...thus if you are using navigation you can't use DVD or if you go out of the loaded range you need to stop the DVD and reinsert the navigation CD....the 5435 has two individual slots one for nav and one for DVD and the 5495 has the hard drive and a DVD slot....and the hard drive allows music storage of 3,000 songs so you don't need auxillary units like IPOD, Music Keg, etc

Not completely sure on this one...might want to call eclipse here. But again with the hard drive ability to store 3,000 songs the IPOD becomes unnecessary
Hey Pete,
Can you tell us approx. where the dealer is located so I can estimate the shipping costs and tranist times?
Thanks ~ Jonesie

My iPod already has all of my music on it... I don't really want to have to move everything to the new unit, and I also don't know if I can make playlists or sort by artist and all of that. Anyone who has used one of these things want to provide some insight for me??? I am definitely going to get one of them, but I don't want to spend 500 more dollars for a Hard Drive I won't use.
Does the music take titles of songs and everything directly from the CD??? Can I burn a Data DVD of the music off of my computer and transfer that music directly to the Eclipse unit?
I am also wondering about the sales tax and shipping.
Thanks for any more info, I know I want one of them. How long is this buy going for?
I'll try to answer MOSt of the questions in one post so the G.B. post doesn't get buried in all these responses
-the vendor is in northern/central NJ...(so those in NJ or close by I assume can save on shipping and pick up at the vendor...do NOT quote me here but I'll check on that)
-the poll runs for 10 days....then if 10 people have committed by the end the group buy proceeds and orders are taken for one week
- yes we NEED a total of 10 people (10 for one unit or any combo that gives us 10 like 5 for each) to proceed with the group buy....if we get LESS than 10 TOTAL then we can NOT proceed with the group buy and everyone misses out!
- the group buy will only last ONE WEEK after the poll closes
poll runs from April 12th- April 22nd
assuming 10 commit orders taken from April 22-april 29th
ipod concerns
-230thousand CDDB* feature is included to instantly provide track information on album and artist names. Music Juke also supports play lists to allow music files to be easily grouped and instantly retrieved.
-The AVN5495 easily connects to a rear view camera as well as an optional CD changer and other sources to expand a system as desired.
-The AVN5435 incorporates two optical disc mechanisms so that navigation can be accessed during entertainment without any interruptions. The DVD-navigation database is 8.5GB with coverage similar to the AVN5495.
-"Yes, taxes are included (basically the price is the price), and those
coming to the store can surely forego shipping charges!!"
Nanibecker: See the group buy policy...since there is no preferred pricing for TS.com subscribers the group buy is limited to subscibers ONLY....sign up for a years membership (its only $25 and your saving AT LEAST $140 on the the unit) to get in on this deal!!!

Ya, my subscription just ran out a couple weeks ago... Hopefully we can get 10. I am in for one of them, but I am not going to vote yet because I don't know which one. So thats 3, COME ON EVERYONE THIS IS A GREAT DEAL. What happens if we get 10 confirmed and them someone backs out after I pay? Do I get my money back or do I still get the unit?
Is there any way to later update the GPS/NAV information? I am having a real hard time finding info on the internet about these products...
Will grounding the parking brake let me play DVD's for a passenger while driving? If there is a DVD playing can I still use the NAV features? I know some members have these things, if they can comment that would be great...
