Thumbs up Install complete

I installed my window today and am very satisfied. Great job and many thanks to Ken and Jack for putting this GB together and thanks to Bill for tips on wiring the OEM switch! :

The glass installer removed my old slider without breaking it, I'll store it for awhile and see if anyone has in interest someday. I wired it up in a few hours and all went smooth.

Question to Ken, how many people actually went through with the purchase? For those still on the fence you are missing out on a very cool mod. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

First of all, thanks for the Kudos. I really appreciate hearing when people get the window in and are satisfied. Jack Burton, Bill and I all went to a lot of work to make this thing happen the way it did, so it is REALLY good to get a pat on the back now and then.

As far as the numbers go, we have 33 people signed up and STILL only 10 paid orders! I am flabbergasted! I cannot figure out why anyone would commit to the puchase via the poll, but not follow through. Amazing.
We are holding out hope that some people are just "waiting" to place the order. I hope for Robs sake that is the case. I would love to put another GB together with Rob if we can find a product that generates interest, but if the numbers don't pan out in this GB I doubt there will be another with Rob.
I just wish people would pay up.

Ken

Welcome to the wonderful world of group buys Ken! I think that is about par for the course, 1/3 actually committed to spending the money. For those that didn't pay, hang your head in shame. JB is a group buy veteran, getting people to actually spend the money is hard to do. I would have liked to have jumped in on this, but I know I couldn't swing it, so I didn't bother to vote.

Thanks JL. I guess what surprised me was that we had two polls: one to gauge interest before approaching retailers, and the second for TSers to actually commit to the buy. I expected the numbers in the second poll to be lower than the first, but didn't expect so many people to commit to the buy and then bail. I am glad we at least got the ten minimum for the buy, but am really dissapointed that more people didn't follow through. Not for my sake, I have a slider in my truck and the project is history for me, but for Rob's sake. He did cut his margin to the bare bone and has offered awesome service. Was just hoping that he could make some money for his effort.

Ken

PS You are right about JB. He pretty much called the numbers from the start. I was just naive I guess.

Default Well... We can lead the Damn horse to the water.....

All,

Ken, Bill and I wanted to share a great deal on a OEM quality mod w/all the TS members. You guys posting that you're impressed and very happy w/the end product makes us glad we ventured in w/the GB. From what we understand, the GB price is a very good one and hopefully more people will get in on the buy......

With a few installs done now and people reporting the little tricks they did, it should encourage anybody to do this mod. We even found out how to get the OEM slider out (Thanks, Rick..) w/o breaking it so that someone could possibly sell it and subsidize the install price......

We have a few more weeks left for people to buy the sliders. All the info is there to make a very educated decision about it. We understand that things change and life dictates certain decisions to be made w/discretionary funds.....

So, all we ask is if you've changed your mind and have voted on the poll, please post two words....."I'm out".... PM Ken if you want if that works.....
No one will ask any ?'s........ Thanks..... JB

Ps. Hey JL..!! How's the Tacoma treating ya..?? I see you're not "modding" this -truck...

I had to work an awl point into the plug to flatten the pin enough that the prongs on the switch would slide in and make contact with each pin. I was anal enough to use the same wire colors as the CRL harness. After I had the plug in the switch I tested the switch circuits with an multimeter using the ohm scale by putting one lead on the power wire holding the switch in the closed or open mode and putting the other lead on the power out wire (red or yellow in my case). I finished the set up with crimp on spade connectors that mated to the CRL wire harness. Just for extra precaution, I used the ohm meter to test on the whole harness as well. Hope this makes sense and helps everyone.
Now Im scared...I actually understood all of that!

Thanks!

I have a couple of questions:
For the '05 Tacoma.
Is the new glass tinted and does it match the factory tint, both color and darkness?
Which way does the slider move?
Is there a visible motor box? If so where is it located.

I had one of these on my '96 Dodge Ram and loved it, I just want to make sure it will look right in my X-Runner.

Default Power Rear Slider

SBESSEL: My experience is with a Tundra window (however, I wouldn't expect the Tacoma window to be much, if any, different...). The window tint is a very close match (if maybe not a little darker..) to OEM windows. The motor unit gets mounted and hidden on the rear cab wall, behind the seat back. The glass slides "OPEN" towards the driver's side ("CLOSED" towards the passenger side). Someone who has one installed in a Tacoma may be able to verify this info......

I will run your questions by Rob and let you know what he says, but I think Bills answer probably covers most of your concerns.

Here is Rob's response to your question. I made one comment in red.

Hi,
1. The glass is tinted what CRL calls "Solar Privacy" tint. It is relatively dark and complements the factory tint very well.
2. The sliding section moves to the left. (from the passengers side to the drivers side)
3. The motor assembly is designed to mount behind your rear wall trim for a neat appearance. The slider is connected to the motor assembly by a cable (also ran behind your trim).
The kit for the '05 Tacoma comes with everything needed for installation except for the urethane (glue) that bonds the window to your truck. These sliders are designed for better than factory quality style and function and come with a 1 year, parts only warranty direct from the manufacturer.
If you have any more questions, please ask.
Thanks!
Rob

I called Rob direct and he is very helpful. He goes way out of way to make sure you are a satified customer. I wish I had this window years ago. I have the TRD switch in and working great. I was driving out in the back woods where there were no street lights. It was dark, I got lost and needed to turn around. When I started backing up I could not see very well with trees all around me. It was cold, I did not want to get out of truck and it was starting to rain too. I do not like being lost by myself late at night. With a touch of the button I could see so much better. I could have easly backed into something that night. When you are sitting at the light waiting for it to change and that boom box pulls up next to you with music on. With the touch of a button it can be quiet again. Also when the dog is in the back you can adjust how much his head will stick in the cab. The dog can't push his head through like on the stock one. I am sure there will be more reasons for having this control too. I say just get off the fence and put it on the card. This was my Chrismas present to myself and I am glad I got it early. yeh!!!

RIGHT ON TOYOTA RICK!!!

Hey that is an AWESOME story and great selling point. I use the window for the dog thing mostly, but also because the air just flows better with the back window open (when you have your DS window open). It is by far the best mod I have done to my truck (and I have done A LOT).
Hey, do you mind if I copy and paste your comments and email them to Rob to use on his site? I know he would really appreciate the kudos. I was planning on doing something similar for him so he could create a "customer feedback/comments" page.
You are right about Robs customer service too. He went WAY above and beyond the call of duty to make this GB possible. He has also tried very hard to make sure every buyer is happy. He is a good guy.
Anyway, thanks for the comments. I appreciate them and I know Rob will too.

Ken
