Reason: Added bonus offer
Damn, i hate the whole "continental" US thing. Do you have any idea how shipping would cost me to Fairbanks, Ak 99709? I would just go through with it but after the hellwig GB and 100 bucsk shipping later the Gb wasnt a deal by any means. Just want to get the facts straight before i order.
thanks for the PM JB..... although my truck is on order I should have it by the 1st of December (if I sell my car ) So I am interested.. I just need a couple weeks before I pull the trigger.
Ken, Bill, Jack the so called switch for the 05-06 Tacoma looks like? I noticed you claimed an OEM switch is available for the Tundra... is there an OEM switch for the Tacoma... or is it the same switch??? If so can it be placed in one of the blank spots on the 05-06 Tacoma lower panel or will us Tacoma owners have to drill holes and fabricate a place for the switch.... thank you.

Smitty
No Worries....Smitty,
If the '05-'06 Tacos have a blank spot in the dash, you should be able to utilize the Tundra switch. We mention the Tundra only because the DC's are the only trucks w/an electric slider and slider switch.... We should be getting more info on the switch mod and will pass it on...... There's a Foglight switch mod in the "How To" section that is pretty close to what you need to do except use another type of switch.... JB

Jake, I will email Rob and see what he says. It ain't gonna be cheap, but who knows, he does a large volume so maybe he will surprise us. I will let you know what he says.

MS: Timing should be perfect. The site won't be ready to accept orders until the 10th any way, and then runs for a month so you are good to go!
As far as the switch, take a look at this "how to" for the Fog Light Switch Mod and see if your Taco has a switch that looks like the one in the pictures.
Like most of the guys here, I am also willing to make this purchase but timing is the factor. With the holidays coming up, I don't think I will be able to make this purchase till after the new year. Especially since the wife and I will be doing a relocation at the end of the year. Shipping the truck from guam to Idaho is gonna put a huge dent in our pockets . I hope the GB could be done after the new year. Sorry for the disappointment guys, I know you were counting on the numbers.
KEN/JACK: Good job on this GB.....You've negotiated some fairly decent prices too (considering what these units cost on the "open" market). I believe that anyone who gets one installed will not regret it! I know I have thoroughly enjoyed mine since I installed it in 2001.
MR SMITTY: Unfortunately, only the Tundra offers a "power rear sliding window" as a factory option, hence, Toyota only makes an OEM switch designed specifically for the Tundra. Tundra's are "unique" in this respect because our "Combination Switches" (i.e. Foglight, Clutch Cancel, etc) have a
"different" physical appearance (e.g. sort of like a "canted oval" shape...).
(Follow KEN's link and you see exactly what I mean). From what I've been able to figure out, the Tacoma's don't use these type switches; their switches are more the "conventional" "straight horizontal or vertical" type. When you get your slider unit though, the CR Laurence unit will also come with a "prewired" switch for you (I've posted a pic in my photo section of what the switch should look like. It is not an exact photo of the switch that will come with your unit, but it is very close to what it looks like). Also, in the instruction manual you'll get, CR Laurence will provide you photos of
"recommended" mounting locations for the switch and a mounting template.
Again, my experience with this unit is based on my 2000 Tundra; not a Tacoma. However, I don't think there will be a hugh difference from the Tacoma (In addition to having a CR Laurence in my 2000 Tundra, I also had
a CR Laurence Power Slider installed in my 1994 Toyota Pick-Up...). IF Tacoma owners do in fact have a "blank space" that will accept a Tundra switch, there should be no reason why they can't do this modification to install an "OEM Power Rear Sliding Switch", however, I don't think the Tacoma
does.

So, does anyone know if "installation instructions" are included? Is this the type of thing a generally "handy" DIY'er can handle? Any special tools required?
A complete set of instructions should be enclosed with every unit.
Unless you are a "glass installer" by trade, I don't think that you want to tackle the install of the window on your 2005 Tacoma yourself! Not being
familiar w/Tacomas (however, if you read the complete description of each
model slider in Ken's post...), it appears as though the 2005 and newer Tacomas, as well as the Tundras all use the "bonded in" type of rear window. As such, you need specialized experience and tools to remove and install these type of windows. Conversely, it appears as though the 2004 and older Tacomas use a "gasket type" of rear window, whereas you "maneuver" the old gasket around the window frame out of the opening, plase the new unit into the new gasket channel and then "maneuver" the assembly back into the opening (this is how it was on my 1994 Toyota Mini Pick-up...of which I did that CR Laurence Power Slider install myself....).
Although my hint is based solely on my experience on installing my CR Laurence Power Rear Slider in my 2000 Tundra, I would guess that the same basic "principle" would also apply to the Tacomas. HELPFUL HINT: Just before you have your rear slider installed, go ahead and remove the rear seat assembly (on the Tundra, the rear seat back and seat cushions will come out as one whole unit...) before you send your truck to the installer and just store it in your garage. This will eliminate one step that your installer is going to have to do anyhow AND (if your installer puts it back in after the window is installed...) you'll just have to turn right around and pull it back out again when you go to mount the motor unit and run the wiring. Might as well do it once, right up front, and "everybody can be happy".....
Kwazy: What Bill said is right on the money. The '05/'06 Tacos have the "glued" in windows. Better left to the window experts. The older Tacos (pre-'05) use the gasket and Rob has described the kit as "Great for the DIYer".
Bill: Great advice on the back seat. I was going to go by the installer and see if there was anything else that I could remove prior to install to save him time (and me $$).
BTW Bill mentioned the installation instructions in an earlier post. He has been kind enough to provide us with scanned copies of some of the pages of the installation instructions for the Powr-Slider in a Tundra. They can be downloaded here.
What are you talking about? It's perfect timing!!!
Island Tundra: Hey, the timing is perfect my freind. Have your wife buy you the window for Christmas (instead of something you would never use). Then think of the money you will save by getting FREE shipping instead of that astronomical shipping fee to Guam! And if it comes down to it, don't have the truck shipped back from Guam, drive it back. I hear it is a great drive
Seriously, no problem. Wish you could get in on it because I think it is a really good price, but if the timing isn't right, it isn't right.
Hey as a side note to this group buy, I think we ought to make a game plan for after the purchase is made. There will be a massive influx of Tundra and Tacoma rear windows hitting ebay. To make sure that we all get the most $$, we should set up a schedule and list one window at a time
