So now I'm confused... I looked up my 2006 Tundra on Unichip's website and they claim it's only a hardwired application. But Performance Products claims that it's Plug & Play (part #1020161)... so which is it? Anyone know for sure? If it's Plug N Play.... count me in... just don't tell my wife
Me too. Is this plug or play or does it require sodering/wiring?
hey folks, just curious how this is working. sometimes with group buys, they are set up by a moderator, there's an official poll with a cutoff date for deciding if you're in or out, and then the orders are placed and paid for either though the TS store or as wd-40 has set it up in this case.
i thought this particular thread was just to gauge member's interest in if there should be a group buy. (see poll??? it is about "interest", not about "yes" or "no" will i buy one) for example, right now without an official poll, we don't have any idea how many are purchasing and thus the price. i can't commit for 900 bux, but i might be able to swing 750 if we get enough interest up.
not trying to rain on anyone's parade, just hoping to put the horse in front of the cart on a big ticket item like this so everyone knows what they are getting into and is a happy camper after it's all said and done... at the very least, i need a week or two to prep my wife! she wants a couch. ;-)

This is correct. You should be able to use this thread as your "poll". Just let the group buy mod know this is the poll thread. Then once enough interest is established, and min criteria is met, (set from the product vendor), then you can submit for a group buy thread thru the mod....he will point you toward the group buy rules as well.

To answer a few of the questions:
The 2006 is plug and play as are all Toyota UniChip applications.
None of the Unichip Toyota applications remove the speed limiter.
The Flux upgrade is still pending and they will not have any approximate price quote since Unichip is still trying to get this technology to the market place. Once it is available they will consider doing a group buy on the upgrade. This would be at a later date.
John Uszler (johnus@performanceproducts.com) has been answering all of my questions at performance products. He will be more than willing to answer any questions you all have to the best of his knowledge. The ones he cannot answer he will ask UniChip to answer. So email away.
I'm currently working with PP to see if they will take all of your orders directly instead of us holding them until the end of the GB. I'll keep everybody updated with the status. I will also get the official end date in.

oh, by the way! i forgot to mention, it is strongly recommended not to send credit card info by email. email is similar to sending a postcard through the regular mail. anyone with the right software can read it. that's why they have encrypted servers for these types of things. ;-) never send anything in the email you wouldn't want the world to see....

Thanks for the information. You can change me to a for sure if we get this in the $750 range.
Also just to clarify - the PDA option (when released) can be added to this we dont have to start all over from scratch.

Per Joe and Jack at Unichip, the addition will be a plug and play on the units that will be sold. The Unichip needs to be “Q Logic” compatable and the ones offered in this group buy will be.
07/31/06 will be our official end date. I'm keeping a list of interested parties. So keep emailing or PMing me if you are interested this way we can keep track to see when we hit the 30 member mark.

Q: does every Unichip comes with the ability two store two sets of maps - one for performance and one for economy, and how does one switch between the two? Is there a dash switch or do you have to go down into the area of the ECU every time you want to switch?
A: The Unichip has only one map per unit. There is a switch that you can switch between two variations of the map to take into consideration for the fuel quality available in your region or available octane. One is just slightly more aggressive in fuel/spark ratio.
I'm intersted, but like others, price is the factor.
Being Plug & Play, is the install easy? Can a "do-it-yourselfer" make the install or is a shop recommended?
Sounds like it is an easy one to do at home. Below are comments from OKCTundra on his install with a few tips. He says the install was "smooth and easy". UniChip: Installation & Feedback Notes

Please keep PM'ing me and letting me know if you are interested. Just let me know if you are in at the 30 person mark, 40 mark, etc. That way I can let everybody know exactly what the discount will be at the end of this thing.
Thanks, Eric
