A question and answer from unichip rep:

Q: I have "2005" Sequoia with the VVT Motor and the only mod. I have is a K & N Air Filter. I was thinking about getting the Unichip with the Group buy but I have a couple of questions that I was hoping you could answer. First a most Important will the Unichip stop the speed limiter? When my truck gets to about 95 or 98 MPH she just cuts off and I need that to go away. I read on the TS site somewhere to talk to a Jack Friedman at Unichip North America (1-866-643-7400) . I was told that he could sell me something that will take care of the speed limiter problem. My second question is, Will I need to use any higher octane gas besides 87 octane when the Unichip is installed? And my third and final question is does the Unichip effect my transmission in any way? Does it make it shift harder or will it shift earlier or later with the chip installed?

A: Here are your answers in the order in witch they appear;

1) No the Unichip does not remove the Speed Limiter.

2) The Unichip is programmed to run on Premium fuel but all the customer has to do is flip the A/B Fuel switch and they can run regular gas.

3) The Unichip does not effect the transmission in any way; we recommend a Level 10 kit for that.

Like was mentioned in the post below it will not change shift points. It is for the engine only.

I'll see if I can get an answer on how much HP to expect from the Taco kit.

Any other 06 Tacoma people are welcome to get in on the goup buy. Just a note the Tacoma chip wont have the ability to add the "Flux" PDA attachment later on. Only the V8 unichips that come out of this group buy will have that.

Some of the early ones had the ability to "clamp" the vehicle speed signal to the ECU thereby "disabling" the speed limiter. I've got one of those, but here in Oregon it can cost you as much as $1100 and your license being pulled for 6 months if you are observed testing the feature. I'm satisfied with the performance of mine and recommend that you guys go for it!

I think I may be interested also. Can I find out for sure if this is PnP for 05 Tundra DC 4.7? Unichip site says hardwired application. I doubt there is a facility here in E. Wash. to do this.
Also, what sort of hp/torque gains can I expect?
Thanks.

The 05 is plug and play as are all V8 applications.

I would ask John at Performance Products about the power gains. He is also happy to answer any other questions you might have. johnus@performanceproducts.com

ppd <-- there are some Dyno Graphs of the 04 and earlier V8's without VVT-i. John should be able to show you where the 05+ dyno graph is.

I'm interested but want to see the Dyno chart for an 05 Tundra first before saying yes. I sent John an email and hopefully he'll be able to respond before this poll closes.

If anyone else has done this on an 05/06 model already with simular mods (headers and catback), please post your dyno figs and experience. Thx

Exclamation Re: OPEN: Uni-Chip Group Buy

I Am interested depending upon if:
of course the PRICE is right, then if I have it programmed now and later add dual exhaust or (dream, dream) a supercharger or any other mod, what is involved in reprogramming the chip and how much will it cost to do it?
Do you know if any one has had one in for a while and what their opinion is on drive ability or if they have experienced any problems?

Well It would be between this Unichip or JBA headers, I have an 03 with just 3" duals and planning on a TrueFlow Intake before I get either. $700+ better give me some damn nice gains or I will be upset. Any input?

For all you guys on the fence, this is probably the best bang for your buck. The JBA's are about the same price, but the UniChip gives better performance than the JBA's. From my understanding, it's a pretty easy install... much easier than the JBA's as well.

Me, I've got JBA's waitin to go on, a True Flow on the way and this UniChip as soon as we get the GB goin. From everything I've read on here, this is the best combo for yielding TQ and HP. If you're thinkin about buyin the UniChip, put your other stuff on hold and take advantage of the discounts here. You can always buy headers or an intake later for the same price, but this will save you some $$$ .... which means more toys for the same price. I think there's a free retune included in the GB, you just have to pay for shipping....

Won't commit until someone posts some VVTi dynos with the Unichip. Whole different engine with the VVTi. Same goes for JBA headers. Heard nothing but great comments on them for the non-VVTi motors, but definitely mixed reviews (and no dyno graphs) for the newer motors. Prolly wait for the next group buy after all these guys post dyno results.
