Question Positives and negatives of (front end) Polyurethane bushings

I think Daystar has a kit ( thought I saw it in Performance Products ). I am most likely going to get the Team West Sway Aways - hopefully with the ( soon to be released ) Sway Away rear lift ( big bore shocks with a block for 1.5 inch lift ).

Can easily toss on Polyurethane bushings at the time of the front coil overs.

What are the trade offs - I am assuming some additional vibration and squeaking vs handling ( less sway on on turns )?

Thanks - Dan

I put poly bushings on my Z28. It holds corners way better than the stock rubber ones. I didn't notice any additional squeaking or vibrations.

As far as cons, There are none.

I had the Daystar sway bar bushings and end-links on and they improved the handling of the truck. I ended up removing them because they were made wrong. There was a lot of squeak coming from the sway bar bushing. Supposedly, a new batch was made and users have had good results from them. I don't see any cons with using poly bushings compared to stock rubber bushings. Price is good for the performance you gain.

Hey Mike,

Did Daystar swap them out for you?

I am in the same boat as Mike. I was going to toss them when I was working on my truck a few weeks ago, but would have had to wait a few days to get the OEM ones. I ended up taking them off, rubbing some graphite on them and then putting some grease on them and the sway bar where they sit. So far the annoying squeeking hasn't come back, but only time will tell.

I installed the bushings when I had spacers on and really didn't notice any better handling. After installing the TW SAWs the handling was improved a lot. I don't attribute that to the bushings though. If they start squeeking again, I'll be ordering a set of OEM ones. I may also try a set of Poly's that have been injected with graphite. Supposedly they don't squeek!

I didn't take the time to contact them and have them changed. I would've like to have received the new batch but, with it being so long, I don't know if they'll still honor it.

Default On the Squeak front

I used this 'green goop' - calledd effective grease on my Miata, when going to aftermarket sways.
GREEN GOOP

Bill ( Cardel ) would most likely sell it to you direct - I think he gets it from bicycle shops or some such.

I don't know what it is - It worked, as I never heard a squeak again. Hard to apply though. I have used lithuim grease, sprays, graphite lube etc - all work temporary at best.

FWIW - Dan

I bought the Daystar kit from Wheeler's Offroad last summer. I had it on for a couple of months but ended up taking the D bushings off because they squeaked so badly. I still have the bumpstops and endlink bushings on though.

I hadn't heard about a bad batch of bushings. I wonder -- since Wheeler's advertises on here -- if they'd make good and replace the D bushings that I have with a new set. I loved the ride with the things on and I still have them in a drawer out in the garage...

I have the full set on my ride but I am going to take the D bushings off in the spring due to the horrible squeaking. I didn't notice a huge change in the body roll of the truck with the install.

The urethane bushings on the front in conjunction with the Hellwig on the back is perfect...except for the squeaking. I'm going to call Gary Wheeler and see what he says about exchanging the ones I got for a new set.

Default Daystar bushings.

Has anyone confirmed that there is a "new generation" bushing from Daystar that doesn't have the squeeking problem that the older one's did? If there is a new bushing, how do they work now? Is the squeeking problem solved?

Thanks

Ken

I emailed Gary Wheeler about it and here was his response:

We haven't had any problems with squeaking or know of any bad batch of bushings. We are still selling the same pieces (at least pieces from the same molds).
Thanks,
Gary

Default Daystar Greasable Bushings

It looks like Daystar offers some greasable sway bar bushings (see here http://www.rockymountainsusp.com/W_poly.htm). Does anyone have these or know if they offer them for the Tundra?

I don't know if they offer them for the Tundra or not, but I do know that a couple of TS members drilled through the OEM bracket and the Daystar bushing, installed a zerk, and created their own greaseable bushings.

Well, I finally got around to performing TMS2U's greaseable bushing mod (writeup available on his web site) a few weeks ago. Works like a charm so far -- I'm able to grease them and so far I have no squeaks. I'll report back in a couple of months -- the normal amount of time it would have taken the bushings to start to squeak if I hadn't performed the mod...
