Ummm, crawled under the truck today because I heard a small pop yesterday like running over a small tree limb or rock....well to my suprise I had performed a "retro" sway bar mod Not sure if it was rust or stress (I don't pound nor jump the DC)....but the top of the bolt sheared right off of the front passenger side sway bar!!!...see pics
guess I'll be using that extended warranty I purchased from Troy at Greenfield Toyota to get it fixed for free!!!

Had the same exact thing happen to me last month. I noticed if I turned right the truck would lean and the tires would squeal a little bit. Looked under and sure enough, the end link was broken. I bought a Moog link, think it cost me about 40 bucks, took 15 mins to fix. After that it felt like I was driving a corvette....well not quite.

yeah I thought about aftermarket links but I have the Toyota extended Platinum warranty plan so replacement is FREE....then if it ever happens again (IF......hopefully never) then I can consider other links.
of course I'm getting tied of the dealership telling me "we''ll have to call and see if that part is covered" for all my repairs...so now I bring a printout from toyotafinancial.com showing it is....I can tell you the local dealership is gonna get a thrashing on thesurvey after this last episode with the sway bar link....tell me they have to call the national # in California to see if the link is covered and I ask " don't you have a paper list, computer system or something that tells you what parts are covered? they say no....then when I ask "why I was offered extended coverage when I bought my Tundra and handed a pamphlet BY THE DEALERSHIP showing part coverage...you mean to tell me your financial dept doesn't have this list"...before they could answer I show them the printout straight from Toyota and tell them "quit f*ing with me"...order the d*&n parts and FIX IT!!!

Sometimes you just have to treat people who are in a position of (self-perceived sense of) authority that way. They act like the repair is coming out of their pockets.

well after my encounter...all is well...the Tundra came out of "surgery" with no "ill effects" and is running smoothly now! Great to have things fixed and they just hand you the keys and say "no charge" (due to my extended warranty!- thnx Troy @ Greenfield ,MA Toyota for that warranty deal!)...saved the broken part for posterity
lizard-- yeah just like any insurance/warranty...you pay and pay and pay then have to fight to get the benefits...should NEVER be that way but sadly it is....most American "sheep" will just crawl away and accept it..I however NEVER will....we need to stop being a nation of sheep following as a flock and stand up for our rights and priveledges!!!...
ok before I get too high on the soapbox- that's a topic for another thread.

Glad you got it fixed! Keep an eye on the other side now. I replaced the driverside 2 months ago and this weekend I noticed the passenger side was busted too so I just swapped it out. Wish I noticed earlier because I think I got some outside edge wear due to it I just rotated so hopefully it will even out.

used to have to crawl under the jeep and pull the pins. Got tired of that and chunked the sway bar.

The way they designed the bottom of the front end links is perfect. The way they designed the top, they will break...not a matter of it, just a matter of when. It's not the size of the endlink either, it's the rotation of the link in the end of the swaybar, and the resistance provided by the two bushings on either side of the bar.
I'm pretty certain changing to poly only makes it worse. The interface between the top of the bar and the link really needs to be a joint, not a bushing. The Downey part is bigger, but not any more correct than the Toyota part.

Don't kid your self. I am a tech and see alot of swaybar links that have joints on both ends break or they get loose in the socket and you get clunk noises over bumps.
