Handling ImprovementsTechnical discussions regarding sport suspensions, performance sway bars, shock absorbers, lowering kits and handling improvement systems.
This is a discussion thread titled "Helwig anti-sway bar question", within the Handling Improvements forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Could somebody direct me to a thread concerning the helwig anti-sway bar. A friend mentioned it to me the other day and I had no clue what he was talking about. I have seen threads on Tundra solutions but....Im not sure what they are for and why one would need it.

An antisway bar reduces the vehicle's lean when it goes around curves. A rear bar also reduces understeer...the tendency for the vehicle to continue straight even though the front wheels are turned. Oversteer, to be avoided, is when the vehicle turns more than the angle of the front wheels dictate.
The Hellwig antisway bar (also called sway bar or stabilizer bar) makes the Tundra handle much better...it just feels "lighter" around curves, if that makes any sense.

I got mine from Summit Racing . It arrived promptly with most of the correct hardware. They had the best price, much less than I could find it locally (even with shipping factored in). I think that it was $137.00 plus $20.00 for shipping.
I installed it alone in a little over an hour and I was taking my time. Member "tremo" has a link in his signature line with photos and tips for installing. It was a big help.

NOTATAION: The thread "Where do you guys purchase your Hellwig Sway Bars?" has been merged with "Helwig anti-sway bar question" as they pertain to the same topic matter. --- Possum
I bought mine from: www.suspensionconnection.com. (part #7641T) The price I paid was $150.00 not including shipping which I believe is $30.00. Shop around for the best price. Unfortunatly, after buying mine I did find a place in Atlanta, GA. with a cheaper price by about $50.00. Any who, just my advise. My dealing with Suspensionconnection was great and the part came to me within 5 or 6 days.

Hi all,
I have read alot here on sway bars and by now am convinced that it will be my 1st mod (side steps willbe a close second!!)
however i still have a few questions.
I see alot have installed them - are they something you can do at home or are all you folks that have installed them mechanics with access to a Garage/pit and more tools than the average Joe who has basic tools .
I have read about the down side when off roading - What about in Snow/ice - I live in Northeast - will this truck handle poor on back roads in a snow storm or Ice storm with the bar installed or will it handle better ( i don't see myself to be offroading any time soon!!!)
Is there a "How to" in here ( I will be joining up soon to see these) for an '04 DC
Is there anyone that has it on the '04 DC and are there any issues pertaining to this model and the installation of hellwig's
