Default -Hellwig Anti-Sway Bar A & Q Thread-

Has anyone used the Hellwig rear sway bar on their Tundra? If so, did it cure the rear end sway on turns? Was the instalation as stated in the instructions? Was the build quality as stated in their advertizement?

I'm trying to find a cure for the rear end sway on my double cab in turns. My 03 Tacoma 4X4 handled better than this truck.

Yes - probably the most popular aftermarket product for members on this site.

Most folks complain about the paint job, andsome folks have received wrong or incorrect nuts - solved by trip to local hardware or call to Hellwig

Okay. Thanks for the answers. I will most likely have the components powder coated if they are as bad as most say.

It does look like crap when you open the box, but it just looks like a sway bar once it's installed.

After reading posts on the subject, I decided to put the RAS system on my truck. Looks to be the best of both worlds.

As most of us know, the Hellwig is a great mod. I drove 100 miles from NH to MA yesterday, with the bar in the bed, instead of installed. I noticed the difference every time I was in a curve exit, causing me to slow down. It needs to go back on this weekend. BTW, it was off, because I had it powdercoated. I will post some pics later.

If you don't mind me being a little nosey, what did it cost you to powder coat the sway bar? I am just curious to get an idea of what something like that would cost so I can plan how much I want to do in the future.

Anxious to see your pics.

I guess it will depend on your shop. You need to sandblast first. DIY, or pay a small fee. I did a package deal with the shop, so I feel the cost was worth it. I did the front sway bar, Hellwig bar, all brackets for both, tow hooks and brackets, TRD coils, cornfed spacers, and OEM skid plate. It works out to about $30-40 for bar and brackets. You can certainly paint it much cheaper, but, the powdercoat gives a nice finish, IMO, especially, if you want "detail" which is what I am doing. I will post a pic before I install it today.

If you rarely haul heavy loads (over 1500 lbs.) in the bed - RAS is the hot ticket

Muleskinner, did you get the standard or the XXF? How much lift in the rear?

I think I will move my Timbrens to the front and re-install my XXF RAS.
I may - once again, have a brand new Hellwig to sell...

My truck will never haul much more than a suitcase. I leave the work to my wife's 2001 3/4 ton 4X4 Cummins powered Dodge. (Mildly modified to 310 HP & 606 feet pounds of stump pulling torque)

I like the idea of controlling rear body sway and axle wrap at the same time. Not that I will be smoking the rear tires, but it will help on braking. I ordered the XF unit from Summit. I will advise on rear end lift, if any, when I get it installed.

Talking Hellwig sway bar rocks!!

Just finished installing a Hellwig sway bar and then took it out for a spin. It is unbelievable what a difference this mod made in how my truck handles!! I would recommend this to anyone.
