Handling ImprovementsTechnical discussions regarding sport suspensions, performance sway bars, shock absorbers, lowering kits and handling improvement systems.
This is a discussion thread titled "TRD sway bar", within the Handling Improvements forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
You guys are so full of yourself when it comes to offroading. I have a antisway bar on my 2x4 Dakota and have taken it on some tough roads in Baja - got a little weightless on my last trip and have never had a problem. If you're draggin' your differential on rocks and stumps, a sway bar isn't the only thing you're going to break. Unless you're one of these nuts rock climbing in Moab, don't worry about and enjoy the turns on the pavement.
Im full of myself??? Was that comment necessary?? I just said its something you need to be aware of. It does hang down below the differential. I know quite a bit about off roading and this something I would be concerned (not worried) about.

Don't take offense, I've just seen this comment about a dozen times here. Everyone is all "Dude that sway bar will prevent you from offroading...blah blah blah" You loose what maybe a half-inch, inch of clearance at the most, if you know what you're doing you shouldn't be coming that close to your diff anyway.
Where are you guys finding these prices on the sway bar? 207 shipped? 209? 213? I can't seem to find prices on it anywhere near that, plus I have to pay shipping!

Those are nice prices. I got mine here $230 delivered Sparks Toyota
I find their service far superior to others I've dealt with on Truck accessories.

Sometimes you get in some tight places and dont have too much room to work that big of a rig and it would get torn off. The chances of that happening wouldnt be too great, but it depends on what kind of offroading your doing. I personally would not get because im pretty sure one day id end up ripping it off. I doubt it would happen very easily though.
Worse case you loose 200 bucks. and can get a new one on. If you know your rig and are a decent driver though you shouldnt have to worry too much about your rear clearance. Especially since the front end is so much lower and bottoms out first.

Don't forget the purpose of the sway bar is to keep both sides of the suspension level.
When you go off roading, you want the most artriculation possible between sides (one side of the suspension moving up/down without affecting the other) The sway bar will prevent this only to an extent. Serious off roaders get swaybars (front & rear) that disconect or remove them completely.

I had Universal Toyota in San Antonio match Sparks price of $217. I called a few others and they said they couldn't match the price. Call your dealerships, if they are good, they'll match the price from Sparks.
I asked my local dealership if they would match internet prices. They went from $259. down to $218.
Also no shipping. No harm in asking.

I would think that it would help a 4x4 with a higher COG even more then a 4x2. After all how many of us pay 50k+ for a truck and beat the hell out of it off road.(that's what a trail rig if for)
would the sway bar interfere with towing and limit the travel of the rear axle. Anyone know if it could work in combination with suspension air bags for towing?
I just installed mine yesterday and can tell a big difference. The truck corners so much better than before.
The sway bar helps prevent body roll when taking corners by keeping the rear axle parallel to the frame. I would not suggest one if you do serious offroading but they work great for trucks that spend most of their time on the road.
Sweet! - just got my 08 yesterday though, so I'll wait a while before I get it so I can compare before and aft ... no off roading for me autocross junkie.

The sway bar would help in any towing situation since it would reduce any lateral loading and distribute it more evenly. You would experience greater results when you haul as opposed to tow.
