I'm on Maui and was interested in getting a new tundra. I was wondering what people were getting for their tundra, if no one minds me asking. Also for those that ordered and had it shipped from Cali, how was the experience and did you save more money then if you bought from the local dealer.
My options are buy from the Maui dealer, Oahu (Servco) and maybe Cali but not to certain about ordering from the mainland.
i think with the way the fuel prices are going, you might find buying here locally a good option. sales are slowing down on the bigger models, (trucks,suv's,etc...). if you stick to your guns, you might be able to get some pretty good incentives and prices from either maui toyota or somebody else here in the state. good luck.

I've bought and sold quite a few cars over the years and can tell you as far as Toyota's in Hawaii go, Maui Toyota has the best prices in the state. Call DJ Farias and tell him Steve (the Fireman from the Big Island sent you). That being said, I ordered my 08' Crewmax from Manhattan Beach Toyota, because with the rebate I saved $10000 from the local dealer here in Kona and about $8000 from Servco. I never called DJ because I know he couldn't touch the price Dianne Whitmire gave me because of the rebate. If you want to buy local, DJ is the man. If you want the best price and are willing to wait and have it shipped, call Dianne.
When I was shopping for my Tundra, I checked some of the mainland dealers and they didn't have anything that I wanted. They only had certain options/colors in stock and not others, and they gave me the runaround when I inquired about special ordering one and tried to sell me one off their lot, which either didn't have some of the options I wanted or was way out of my price range.
So, it depends on how open you are to what you want and are looking for, as far as packages and colors. Not all of them are willing to work with you, especially when there's shipping and other paperwork involved. Plus, are you gonna fly up to the mainland to check out the truck you're gonna buy before dropping the cash? If not, what if it comes and it's trashed? Granted, the mainland dealers can probably get you a better price, but to me I have better piece of mind buying here since if there's any issues with the truck I can just call up my salesperson and he'll take care of it. I'll take the convenience and less headaches, and the option to special order one just the way I like, rather than deal with the mainland dealers. Good luck on whatever you choose.
