Hey guys, there's a car show here in Honolulu this weekend from this past friday to today I believe, well anyways while there I came across an AC tundra that was turbocharged. The brand is STS (Squires Turbo Systems). I have totally forgot about these people, but I remembered reading in an import mag a while ago like a a year or two that different turbos were making their way onto the mod scene. Well anyways, I was wondering if any of you folks happen to know of this company? If not, well basically they sell "remote-bolt on" turbo kits, meaning that you don't really have to mod your truck and that the turbo installs by your exhaust or something like that. To read more, try looking up their website www.ststurbo.com
Well I was wondering if any of you folks have this turbo installed, and if you do, how is it? I wouldn't be surprised if many of you haven't heard of this company before, but they do a lot of trucks apparently. I wanted to turbo charge my DC for a change! Now before you put me on the stake and burn my *** let me just say that, this truck is my "day off" driver, and doesn't tow anything but my crazy *** friends to the beach and what not, so this is my toy/show/personal truck.
I took a pic of the setup from the car show, so i'll post it inside of my gallery if any of you care to see it!
Aloha!

kaleo, howz'it brudda? my friend here on the valley isle has a sts turbo on his dc. to tell you the truth, it's o.k.. it's got a pretty good amount of lag when you punch it from a dead stop, but once the rpm's hit around 3k you will know it's there. it's also pretty loud, even on idle, not to mention alot of $$$. he put the trd sc on his sequoia, and the sequoia has more overall power. hope this helps.

sup bruddah! thanks for the input, so it's just ok then huh? hmmm looks like i'll wait around for toyota to bring back a hopefully better trd sc. Comparing the price on sts's website to a trd sc, it seems to be quite similar with the trd ahead by a few hundred. Well anyways, when I have money to "burn" i'll think about getting it.

howz'it kaleo! the sts would probably be alot better if you did all the upgrades sts offers, more boost etc..but also alot more $$$. hopefully trd will throw out another sc for the 4.7 , if they do, i might think about it. hey, you should chime in on the hawaii members thread in the off topic area if you haven't already.

Hey guys, I saw a 02 with the set up and to tell you the truth, not worth the money. The housing is under the truck and while a novel design, I wouldnt want it to be subjected to the heating/cooling when driving in the rain or snow where I am. The company is out of UTAH if I remember correctly. If your set on going with boost, a guy who developed a tt lexus and has a tundra kit in the works. this kit according to his website will have a tt set up where the turbos are mounted between the manifolds and fender. My opinion is that this traditional set up with intercooler in front is a superior design. just search on google for twin turbo tundra. hes also a member on this board too so it should be easy to find. However why do you need a tt set up in HI anyway. Its way overkill no to mention the potential damage to your costly 4.7 if needed to be replaced. Up here you can go 70 but at home, your lucky to not get a ticket. Just my opinion.
You still got pics of that STS that you were talking about.
ausk9-0: yea i still have the photos i believe. i gotta check my backup cd of pics i made before my laptop crapped out on me. I'll check in about 30mins after lunch and put it up on my gallery. peace!

I have to disagree with you on the fact that the mounting location would not be sutable for the heating and cooling affect from rain water on the turbo housing. It may be a prob for a vehicle with minimal groud clearence but i think in a truck SUV application you will be fine. The company has even included a intake snorkle kit to relocates the intake for that reason. For a truck owner that has installed a suspension/ big wheel and tire package on there truck or suv i think this kit will excell in giveing back some of the much needed punch.
Plus the sound of a spooling turbo on a lifted toyota sure as hell would turn my head.

LONG LIVE BOOST!
werd to that brutha! now only if I had an extra $5k laying aching to be spent

Aloha,
Had my STS Turbo for a year and a half now. Only running 4lbs of boost and had it dynoed at 236 hp I must be losing boost somewhere. But I am going to crank up the boost to 8lbs of boost and should be at 300hp. Only good thing about a turbo is cranking up the boost is a lot easier than on a supercharger, my opinion of course. I have a supercharged MR2 and a turbocharged Volvo...cranking up boost on the turbo just takes a minute...no pulleys or nothing to change.
Anyway, full boost comes on about 2700rpm. So from idle to boost there feels like a lag, but the V8 holds it own till the boost kicks in. Secret is to stage when you want boost NOW.
When I get off my A$$ I will install my brass headgaskets on my Tundra and then crank up the boost to 12lbs...Im running super rich already with my FMU installed.
STSTurbo says they have a distributor in Oahu. Don't remember the name of the shop though.
Turbo whine makes heads turn quick on my Tundra...that was until I put a muffler on after the turbo...neighbors were complaining about noise.
Mike

ALoha,
Yeah I saw a posting on here about that. dont forget to get an FMU so that you can run it safely. The FMU from STS makes my Tundra run rich when boost comes on. Better rich than lean I say.
