Unhappy Damaged Tundra

that's all I can say...I got into a fender bender today on the corner of beretania and punahou. clipped a high school girl inside her vw golf. her driver door is scratched to $#it, and my passenger front bumper corner is scuffed up, and my turn signal lens has busted clean off it's hinges.

got my first anxiety attack tonight after letting my dad, gf, and grandmother know what happened, was so bad that I couldn't eat dinner and threw up the rest of the night. Not feeling so well and i got to work early tomorrow morn. will try to take pics tomorrow off my digi cam since i took pics off my camera phone.

i've worked so fricken hard for my vehicle and this happens. i'm so not feeling it right now!

cheer up bruddah, its not the end of the world.

i had the same anxiety issues when i totaled my 88 supra in 1992. the older you get the less anxiety you get when you get into a fender b. just got to tell yourself its nuthing a few $$$ cant fix. sounds like you and the girl you clipped are both ok, no injuries just a little tramatized. the anxiety will go away in a few days, might bother you infrequently for the nex few months. after several years, or the next accident, it will go away completely.

what time did it happen? i live on nehoa and i pass that intersection a several times a day.

thanks man, though it just hurts to see something that I have worked so hard for get damaged like that, and even though it's minor compared to her damage it's just the inconvenience of it. I guess the anxiety attack just blew out all at once when I was going to sleep because when the accident happened, I just stopped and was not furious but freakin sad. I thought I handled it pretty well, but I guess when I came home that's when everything just poured out.

and yea I tried to keep in mind that this is only materialistic and nobody was injured. Though money wise it's going to be a bit difficult because I'm more worried about the cost of repairs to the other person's vehicle than my truck. That is my main worry, but anyways yea!

To answer your question, this happened shortly after 4pm I believe. I have to check the police report to make sure.

Cool

Hey bra, you need to take it easy with the emothons for a machine. I had the whole left side of mine wiped out in it's first year but it came back even better because I was able to have the front bumper re-polished to a show quality shine and had the front valances color matched.

When you have it fixed, ask if you can inspect it in various stages to make sure that they are doing it to your likeing.

Default Estimates!

Went to two body shops today for estimates. One was the insurance referred one and they will give me their est. tomorrow. The other one was my co-worker's uncle's place and so far the damage will be $1k and some change. (sorry mho but that was my savings for the bed cover I inquired to you about so it will have to wait now ) but anyways I have to replace the right headlight and signal lamp assy. I'm just trying to find the cheapest place that I can get the replacement parts, and yea I know it's not cheap because I knew it would be several bills for each part. So far my options are that I go to Toyota city and get on my hands and knees and beg the parts guy to give me a price break, or sell myself on Merchant and Hotel street after work! yikes

I have searched online and found several sites that sell the parts for cheaper but with shipping to hawaii the total goes way up. toyotapartscheap.com has a cheap price on parts, but they add on $15 "pre-auth" fee to shipping to outside continental U.S, and if the sale price is over $75, they add on a %10 fee on that. I was like aaaaaaaa. But the price still came out cheaper then the quote I got from my friends place. Though as it stands, it's cheaper for me to just buy online and 2nd day the damn thing and still be just about a 100 bucks cheaper, but it all depends on the 1st shop I went to and see what their est. is.

thinking now I'm just ready to just empty out my savings and just pay the price for the parts so that it can be on the road soon. Everytime I see it, it sux and now I even park it the other way @$$ end out of the garage to hide it from my neighbors, and also so it doesn't rust.

thanks for letting me vent out some pressure! *oh and i forgot to mention that my bed liner got screwed up too yesterday! was unreal

sorry to hear about your accident bro. There's a dealer in the mainland that has a pretty good prices on their parts and cheap shipping(UPS). I've bought a few parts from them......my sport grill with free ups shipping.........a case each of oil filter for my tundra and 4runner with 2 trd air filter with free ups shipping. And today I got a qouted for new color keyed running board for my dc with only $30 ups shipping. kaleo,

dont be selling your asss down on merchant & hotel. you will probably come home with a sore asss and a nicke short.

if you want to buy your parts off the shelf here in hawaii. give my friend a call at Servco Pacific JAWS. ask for matt akimoto, he's my parts guy, tell him supra-dave sent you. tell him which parts you need and he can have it on will call for you at toyota city. the discount isnt huge, but you should get between at least 10-30% off, some parts have different markup.

so the girl that you hit, was she cute?

i must have just missd your accident. i finished lunch at Taishoken ramen about 3:40pm and then went home via king, punahou, dominis. with the holiday traffik, i must have missed you by about 10 minutes.

thanks for the info bulla! yea it looks like you sure just missed me. I checked the police report today when I returned home and the officer wrote it down at 4:05pm. As for the girl, she was ok; haole girl, she said she was going to Punahou. My two co-workers who were riding with me were checking her out. Though not really my type and was way too young for me! Though I must say she had a pretty nice body! She was a paddler and was on her way to practice

ok. well i just got off the phone with the referred body shop, and the lady quoted me $3324.70 So now it's guarans that I'm taking it to my co-workers uncle's shop to get fixed. Now my question for whoever is reading is: since this is my 1st accident that I've been involved in, I am curious to know what the process is going to be now. I've called my insurance agent, and that donkey isn't answering his phone. The lady uploaded the info to the insurance company now so I'm wondering what will happen next?

Hey kaleo:

Here's the poop. I would stick with the recommended shop. You insurance company recommend them and they have confidence with them. Your insurance is paying for this except for the deductable (if any) and the total doesn't really matter to you. When my truck was in a major accident where someone basically took off the drivers side, the total bill was over $11,000 and I paid $250.00.

Be sure to inspect the work very carefully, don't pick it up at night, look at in different light and don't accept anything less than you will be happy with. I refused my truck two times before I was happy with the job.

My truck is now in the shop again because someone backed into the drivers door and another person dented my front bumper a while ago and I am having both taken care of. I told the shop my experience with them before and they remembered me and assured me that they will make it the first time.

P.S. often the repair shop will deal directly with your insurance company and you will have little to do. Check with the shop about what you need to do to proceed.

Brah, I know how you feel about your truck. The first dent I got from a falling branch(painted hood, pass. door and fender). Second time was from me reversing about 10mph into a pole that was protecting a hydrant(painted passenger side quarter panel, rear bumper change). Third was from a moped rider that went 25mph head first into my tailgate and ran, he's lucky my wife had the truck(tailgate repaired and painted).

Kaleo, I don't know who your insurance is but with AIG I went to City Fender in Kakaako. I've been there three different times. My truck came out pretty solid every time.

gotta be more specific, with your truck or the chick's v-dub?

your truck: the insurance co may provide you with a list of approved repair shops they recommend you have yur truck fixed at. typically these facilities will guarentee the repair for life that you own the vehicle, ie paint in the repaired area starts to fade after a few years, just take it back to the shop to be repainted. you may take your truck to a repair facility of your choice, but if they are not on the insurance companies approved list, the repair work will not be guarenteed for the life you own the vehicle.

once you choose a repair place, the insurance co will authorize the work and just cut the check directly to the repair facility, if additional unforseen repairs cost more, the insurance will pay the difference.

like mentioned above, never pick your car up at night. be sure to pick it up durring the day when the light and visibility are good. be absolutly sure you have inspected the work is to your satisfaction before accepting your truck back.

g/l kawika

like da local babes eh, i hear ya. my chick is local nihon.

I meant for my truck, but I figured it out. Since the insurance dude called me up and asked where to send the check so anyways I went with the insurance referred shop and the check is being sent there. Thank you for showing me the ropes as to how an insurance claim goes down. Also many thanks to all of you giving me advice about picking up my truck when it's finished.
