Default Adding Factory Sirius to 2008 Highlander

My wife just purchased the new 2008 Highlander Limited yesterday, and it came with a Sirius-ready premium JBL sound system.

Apparently, enabling Sirius requires the installation of an OEM kit including an antenna and Sirius tuner. I've searched around a little bit for this online, and my best guess so far is that it's the TOYSIR2 part that does the same thing for a number of 07 Toyotas.

Does anyone have any experience installing this kit in a Highlander or other model? Looks like the price is around $300 -- I'm wondering if this is something I can install myself. I've installed Sirius in a number of other vehicles, and actually replaced the factory Sirius tuner in my Dodge with an aftermarket model, keeping the stock antenna.

    Thanks!

    Daren

I do not know if the module is out yet for the 2008 Highlander, but I just installed the Sirius kit for my 07 Tundra from Integration Solutions out of the Dallas, Tx. area. I looked him up on eBay. The unit is awesome, and it installed in about 1.5 hours.

You might want to give them a shout and see what they have for your Highlander. I know they have the part for the 2007, but not sure if it will work in the 2008.

Worth a shot. It cost me like 330 with Texas taxes and shipping.

Just wanted to update this in case anyone is interested...

Got a Sirius tuner and install kit for the 08 Highlander from the stealership for almost $300. Consisted of a tuner adapted for Toyota, and the kit was just the cable and antenna.

The dealer quoted another $300 for installation. I went to a trusted local stereo shop (California Car Stereo in Fresno), and they did a great job for $150.

The factory antenna was HUGE and UGLY, about 4" by 5" made of grey plastic. I instead had the installer use an extra Sirius antenna that I had left over from a Kenwood Sirius tuner (about 1/8 the size). Connectors were the same, it works great, and is barely noticeable on the vehicle. You can get these from ebay and other places for under $20. I highly recommend it.

The price of the tuner and kit from the dealer is a huge rip-off... the tuner was extremely similar to many I have seen sold as add-ons for decks from Kenwood, Alpine, etc., yet 3 times the price. I did see some aftermarket alternatives to the one provided by Toyota, but they were close in price at around $260.

But wife is very happy now that the new car is complete with her Sirius...
