Default Program '05 Highlander to a replacement key?

Hello,

I have searched and found two or three methods to program the car to learn about a replacement key - I haven't gotten it yet. I'm working on my wife's "new" '05 limited AWD - obviously with a transponder key.

I have one key - it's black - so I assume it's not the valet key (and it works on the glove box.)

I had a toyota replacement key code cut.

I have opened and closed doors, pressed gas and brake pedals ... do ANY of these methods work with an '05?

I've exhausted all searches - maybe I'm using poor keywords ...

Any help is appreciated. Not a major priority, but I'd like to save a trip to the dealer.

Thanks!

Default Re: Program '05 Highlander to a replacement key?

From what I see, the procedure for my 01 Avalon is different than my 06 HL.

99% say dealer only scantool neededto code a new key.

I beg to differ and will foreword info as I get it.

I know for certain that there are many undocumented proceduresand techniques for many models of Toyotas.

Much of this info NEVER leaves japan.

Default Re: Program '05 Highlander to a replacement key?

i am also trying to program an additional key for HL'05. I found 2 sets of instructions but they does not seem to work

First set of instructions go as
1- Make sure all doors and windows are closed
2- Insert old key
3- cycle on to off 5 times (confusing this here is that options are lock/acc/on/start, which position is off?)
4- open and close driver door 6 times
5- remove old key
6- insert new key and DO NOT turn on (another variant asked to TURN ON)
7- Wait for about 60 sec to security light to stop flashing (it never stopped)

The other set of instructions go as

1- start with all doors and windows closed
2- press and release brake and gos pedal simultaneously once
3- insert old key
4- press and release gas pedal 5 times
5- press and release brake pedal 6 times
6- remove old key and insert new key
7- press gas pedal once
8- wait for about 80sec for security light to stop flashing (but it never stopped)
9- remove key and press brake pedal once

There are some timing constraint as well but all it says is "DO WITHIN x SECONDS". As I am doing everything in quick succession, I am well within those limits. Can anyone guide me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks in advance
