I have been following the K&N debate since its inception as I have been around these reusables for so many years.
I have never experienced a Toyota related correlation between any DTC codes and K&N
OE fit drop-in products.
I cannot speak for Ford, GMC, Chrysler and Nissan or Honda.
The only sensor in a fuelied Toyota engine that can be focused on is the MAF.
MAF are by nature delicate instruments. And I also say that if yu were to randomly bench test a
supposed working MAF yu would find that it is not calibrated well and is out of spec. Yet it will function.
The tolerance on these mass produced sensors are not close. Ohm checks indicate this variance .
And,they will fail for
so many reasons.
I have no connection with K&N. I won't brag about them to EVERYONE.
They have a viable benefit for some. It sounds like overkill. But the following
is not smoke and mirrors especially if yu understand what a MAF actually is and how it works.
K&N Response to Mass Air Flow Sensor Concerns
K&N Response to Mass Air Flow Sensor Concerns
Again, if yu are squeamish, just don't use their product. But do stay with OE Denso air filters!
Dare I say, K&N will not void your warranty.......
TRD reusables Air Filters(essentially the same design) are outsourced and yu will be unable to find any info, technical or otherwise regarding them.
But in the end ,it is a Toyota Branded product. That is important to some people not "in-the-know".
BTW, the secondary permanent filter that
mustang refers to is for the emissions system as he states. It is two layers with
charcoal in between. It does not generally impede air flow pressure. I could see replacing it after approx. 100-150K miles however. I have seen these getting really fouled out at about 70K miles. Probably due to infrequent filter replacement.
