HighlanderGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid.
This is a discussion thread titled "Name your first...", within the Highlander forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
First Toyota I owned was a 1972 yellow Carina. The Carina was a cross between a Corolla and a Celica. Built on a Celica frame with the heartbeat of a Corrola, but just a bit 'sexier'. Those were the days of the Toyota "C" sisters: Corrola, Carina, Corona, Celica, and Cressida.
I bought a 76 Toyota Corona wagon in 1987 with 160K on the odometer for a commuter car. I paid $350 and parked it downtown where cars got broken into all the time. I never even locked it. It had a few bullet holes in it and someone had used a stud gun with about 20 studs (still sticking out) but never pulled out the dent. It was a baby poop ochre color and ran like a fine watch. The AC would freeze meat. I drove it without a single problem for over 3 years and sold it for $350. It never failed to start or stop. That was my only Toyota until the Highlander.

My first car was a 1982 Toyota Tercel. White with dark blue pleater seats. No idea how many miles it had on it, but it ran great and was a tank! a friend of mine accelerated into the rear of it on the highway and messed up the front of his 300ZX and there was not even dust left on my rear bumper. Back in those days the bumpers were just black rubber. It may not have been pretty to look at, but they sure as hell stood up to everything! LMAO!
A 1988 Toyo Supra MKIII bought in 1990 -- very sweet car. Had it until the head gasket went in 2001. Really great solid car that moved fast and rode nice...

79 Celica - stick, nice car - saw it running around town for years after trading it in.
82 Celica "S" poor man's Supra - 90k trouble free miles.
87 Supra - stick, favorite car of alltime, 130k miles, saw teenager driving it years later- 160k miles and still smooth engine - all else rusted.
85 Van - Aero mini-van, but short WB, rear WD, so useless in winter. great windsurf van. Kinda like a VW bug van, but toyota quality.
02 Sienna - Symphony ed. - nice functional - kinda boring tho. Trouble free.
07 Prius Touring - 42mpg avg - very functional - so complex I was always nervous something would go wrong - traded for HL and sold Sienna. (great tradein)
08 Highlander AWD, 5k miles, seems flawless - great fun in our first snowfall.

1984 Celica GT coupe back in 1993. My first car while I was in the service far away from home in sunny southern Cali.
1985 Celica GT-S convertible 3 years later. Love my first Celica so bad, that I have to get a convertible version of it.
2001 Toyota Highlander for my wife and family car, brand new. Move to the frozen north of the mid-west and need an AWD. Just hit over the 100K mileage mark this past summer.
