HighlanderGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid.
This is a discussion thread titled "Coolant leak where hose meets radiator?", within the Highlander forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
>>>>>>Has anyone noticed that the coolant/antifreeze overflow tube at the radiator neck sweats or leaks coolant?
Please check and reply with your observations.
I observed this since the vehicle had approx. 30 new miles on the ODO!
Coolant always shows up at the nipple where this small hose/tube slips onto side of radiator neck.
Have seen this on other HL's, but not all.
Mine does this. The Dealer won't acknowledge it, says it is very minor and insignificant.
I say at best a bad hose ...at worst, a bad radiator neck.
I have put a wire tie....then a small gear clamp around this hose at the connection, but it still sweats or leaks. Pink dye in coolant is apparent and visible after several engine start cycles.
Toyota in years past have used wire clamps at this connection yet the HL's don't have them.
Those reading may want to look at theirs.
I don't want to eat a defective radiator after my warranty is up.
Who does???

I have a roll of nice braided line to install. Was going to do it when I first noticed the problen when HL was new.
But then I said to myself , let the dealer correct it since this was clear cut(a leak is a leak).... Just gave Toyota $38K on a new HL.
Yes I could handle it. Wanted to point this out to others.
In the Hot summer months ,it will run down the side of the radiator though.
I have had to top off the Cooollant recovery tank after the first 4K miles.
The Super Long Life Pink Coolant is not Cheap!!!
Yes, it is a small problem.
But Leaks never get better...they get worse!

Yes mine does also but I have not had to replace any coolant. When I change the oil I wash the pink off. My dealer is worthless when it comes to service so i do all the work i can. I have 86K on it now.

I checked on mine and there's no leak or residue. Sounds like you have a small casting flaw in the neck. I would keep on the dealer if it's under warranty. Mine has a white stripe on both the overflow and main house right at the top, does yours? Also the smaller line at the neck does not twist so I suspect it has some type of factory sealant on it; does yours twist?

my 94 camry routed the hose across the front then back along the side to the reservoir. it had some support along the way. the 04 hl runs it across space - no support, it will pull off oneday from bouncing up and down
The reservoir cap even pops off every now and then because of the tension across this recovery tube/hose.
If yu are the type that never opens the hood then it is not a problem ...right?
But that's OK because the Dealer says so.
The dealers must get brownie points from Toyota for successfully blowing off (dismissing) legit customer warranty issues.
