To supplement LT's posting -- good news about LEDs is that they don't require a lot of current. Taping into the rear signal lines would be a good approach and I would not expect that the turn signal LEDs would cause any overloading issues for those circuits.
However - I'd probably add a 1 amp in-line fuse at the left and right side harness tap points. That way, if for some reason the mirror LED lines ever got shorted -- the fuse would blow and the short condition wouldn't end up taking out the entire turn signal circuit.
Using 2 fuses is creative and is also a correct approach to wiring these.
Well I dropped these off this morning to get them painted and found that the person I spoke with on the phone last week gave me the price for labor and NOT materials. SO, this $40 paint job turned into a $97 paint job. I went ahead and had them proceed because I want to install these, but this was disappointing. Oh well.
I will put together a "how to" when I install them.
$80-$100 was my guestimate for the pair painted. That's usually what shops get for these items. Your price is fair. But it ups the total cost of the project unfortunately.
Yeah, it's not too bad, but I was so excited when they told me $40! LOL
I picked the painted LED mirror covers up from the body shop today and they look so sweet!!!! I posted pictures of the painted covers PLACED on my mirrors on my cardomain page.
I think I would like to purchase clear stone protection for the covers and install it before I install these. I am hoping to purchase the protection tonight. LOL that sounded funny to me because my mind is 13 years old! LOL
Alright, well I WILL be putting together a "how to" for everyone for the installation of these.
Yeah, I asked the body shop about that and they told me that it shoudl not be a problem to put it on right away, but if I wanted to wait about 60 days for the paint to cure (not sure if I spelled that corrcetly) that I could. They said that they install the clear paint protection immediately after painting and it has never been a problem.
Anyway, as soon as I purchase the paint protection, I think I will install it and get these babies on!!
I been follow this too, but every one is talking about the mirror cover, but not the mirror glass itself? The glass will be reuse from original mirror or it came with the new mirror, and also what about the mirror movement control from inside?
These are just covers for the mirrors, they go over your oem mirrors. They have some 3m tape on the inside and just get taped to the housing of your oem mirror. They won affect controllability etc.
I currently have them on my 2004 HL and imo they look fantastic....not many HL's on the street have them.
