Default receiver hitch

Used the search tool and read all the old posts. What did everyone decide on? Most recommendations where to go with the toyota hitch. Dealer wants $280 for this. etrailer has hitches from $145 to $165. Anyone go with the aftermarket brands and are you happy with them? If you went this route which brand did you install?

OE hitch for $250 is a good price.

What I have. It tends to fit flusher and up tighter with the rear bumper. OE has a decent paint job too.

How dose the OE hitch go around the exhaust? Went to the dealer today but he didn't know and wasn't about to look either, claimed he had one in stock. They had 5 Highlanders on the lot but none with a hitch.

On 04-07 HL's the hitch wraps underneath the exhaust pipe. It truly is a perfect fit...and easy to install with instructions including torque specs for the nuts and bolts.

The original tow hooks get removed and left off.

Here's some pix.

I Just instaled the Toyota hitch and wiring convertor on my Highlander today. It was a very easy job and the hitch looks great. You're right Lifetech it truly is a perfect fit!! I highly recommend this hitch as apposed to an aftermarket one. Well worth the money!

What did you end up paying for yours? I've gotten quotes from 275 -350 for just the hitch and 60-150 for the wiring harness. Think this is the way I'll end going too since most aftermarket hitches look like a highschool shop project gone bad.

I purchased the Hitch P/N PT228-69045 ($250) and the converter P/N 08921-48861 ($46) from Toyota Parts, Genuine Toyota Parts, Toyota Accessories, TRD Performance Parts, Champion Toyota Gulf Freeway, Houston Texas . The P/N of the converter used to be 08921-48860 but it has now been superceeded to the one I have listed above. If you order those two parts you will get everything required to install the hitch and wiring. Plus very detailed, easy instructions.

Does your 07 HL have the Factory Tow Prep package??
If so, the Converter is installed there already.

Just Food for thought.

Well my wallet is a bit lighter but I now have the factory hitch installed. Glad I went this way, really looks good. Took a little over an hour to install but I didn't have any help. Used a pair of jack stands to hold it in place while I installed the bolts. All that is left is to torque the bolts. Now I just need to get a cargo rack to install in it and I can haul my bikes.
Thanks for all the input.

At least yu didn't need to connect the Converter to the Hitch. You obviously don't need trailer lighting.
That job is time consuming too because much of the interior rear flooring must be removed to access the Coverter if there already with the Tow prep pack.
