Default 2005 Highlander Radio Removal

I've been reading for quite some time, but my first post.

Has anyone purchased the VR3 In-Dash DVD Receiver w/ 4" LCD & GPS, VRVD640G? The features sound good, and the price is very good. If I get this, I will need to find out how to remove the present radio.

Thanks,

Neal

Very easy to remove your current factory radio.

Get a small flat blade screw driver and (I suggest putting some electrical tape on the tip) slide it in under the bottom of your silver bezel that is around the radio and AC controls. GENTLY pry towards yourself and once you can get your fingers underneath the bezel, GENTLY slide them around the edges prying the bezel off.

Once it is off, you will see 4 bolts that you will need to remove. I suggest using a magnetic socket wrench to get these out so you don't lose them down in the lower area underneath the radio. Once you remove these 4 bolts, I believe you can just slide the radio and ac unit out and then unplug the wire harnesses.

I think that is most of it, Once you get the front bezel off, it is pretty self explanatory.

Definitely use something magnetic for the bolts....I learned the hard way and lost one. Once it falls it is lost forever unless yu want to spend several hours taking apart your Shift console and all just to retreive this 1 bolt. I just bought another one from the dealer.

That's a good price, I'm not sure how you'll make it look good in the double din opening in the HL. Another reasonbly priced unit is the AVN2210, which is about 500 bucks, 400 online and is full double din, so all that needs to be filled is a bit on the sides with a standard Toyota installation kit.
