The cabin filter compartment is behind the glove box. Open the glove box and empty it out, push inward on the sides to disengage and lower it further, you will see the compartment cover right behind it. Reach behind the lowered glove box to open the compartment cover, pull out the cartridge, and replace the filter.

HI! its super easy, just follow the above post above as mentioined and it works great, I change mine once a year. when i first got my highlander i was super happy with it, mines a 2002 too! i didn't change for a long time like 5 years and when i did change it, it was SUPER disgusting, eeeewww.

go with a toyota brand or go with a fram either will one will work. the manual should have it too. that's how i did mine

I have used Bosch and Fram, found the Toyota brand fits better.

It is interesting to note that The OE filters are sometimes similarly priced to some of the Aftermarket ones. So, OE may be a better choice. A garanteed fit for sure.

Call me cheap, but i just cut home furnace filters to size and they work just fine. A few bucks will give me 4 filters.
