Question 05 HL: Warranty needed?

After shopping around to replace my 03 (I was recently in an accident), we found an 05 for 16K total with 35K miles. Well kept, one owner, V6 w/3rd row.

We are planning on taking it but was wondering if purchasing a warranty is truly worth it. We bought one for the 03. Never took advantage of it in the 2 years we had it. In hindsight seems like a waste of money.

There are pros and cons about warranties. With Toyota's reliability reputation, is it worth getting?

Default Re: 05 HL: Warranty needed?

I've always been one to not buy them on anything. If I added up all the extended warranties I haven't bought, on my cars.... tv.... dvd player... computer... etc I could probably buy another Highlander.

Most of this stems from working at Best Buy and seeing how people were treated who had them. Most would have been happier (and better off) just buying a new item than sending theirs away for two months, then getting a refurbed item back.

I'm in a situation where I can afford to buy a new car, or get ours fixed, without a huge blow financially... and perhaps more importantly I can handle it psychologically. Most people can't.

It's a risk like any other, that you can buy insurance against, but it's expensive.
