Default Engine Smoke on Cold Start

I have recently noticed that my 2002 HL emits a lot of blue-white smoke when I first start it up in the morning. Smoke clears up immediately and engine doesn't smoke any other time. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Stuart

Agreed. That should make blue smoke, and the amount of oil should burn off quickly and go away.

Not something to really worry about causing catastrophic failure, more annoying than anything. How many miles are you at?

My Toyota Tundra SR5 does the same thing. From what I have heard all diesel cars smoke a bit on start up, usually when it is cold. This happens because the oil is leaking down the valve when the engine is cold and dripping into the cylinders but it will also disappear when the engine warms.

Thanks for the feedback. Glad to hear it is not real serious. Any idea what the repair will cost?

Thanks,

Stuart
