Default 2001 Toyota Highlander whinny noise.

We heard a whinny noise when I started my highlander up the other day. So we just did a flush and change of trans fluid it has 150K miles. It shifts a little rought between 1st and 2nd gear then seems to run nice. Whinny noise is present when you start it and then as you accelerate you hear it whine faster as you move faster. As you are driving at higher speeds it seems to be less apparent. The whinny noise is there when in park and in nuetral. Any suggestions?

I suggest using an automotive stethoscope...much like what a doctor uses.

It has a wand to reach certain components of the engine.

I would listen for noise at the alternator, powersteering and other bearing raced components.

Strauss and Autozone may sell them. They are inexpensive.

Stupid Question - Do you have an Ipod connected when this happens?

1st step.
While it's running. Open the hood a spray some belt lub onto the belts too see if that gets rid of the sound. Try to get in in the groove. Don't have to drench them.
Also, does the pitch go up or down while raising the engine RPM's while in park?
