Default Need a 12v switched power.

I need a 12v switched voltage under the drivers side dash that is easy to get to. It will fire a small micro relay so current is not a problem. I have moded my cig lighters to be on all the time so I can charge my phone so that is out.

It will turn on a relay that will switch power for my nuvi gps.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Easy to do -- drop the bottom trim piece that's under the steering column (piece that fits around the bottom part of the ignition switch). One screw on the bottom and a top left/rigth screw that's exposed when the steering wheel is turned.

Find the harness that runs under the steering column and locate the switched +12v line (sorry don't have the factory manual handy at the moment for the wire color code). Use a t-tap snap-on connector (yellow colored one for larger wires) -- you'll then need a spaded male crimp connector to plug into the t-tap. My HL had all those lines tapped for a remote starter that the previous owner removed. I used the switched 12v line for my auto-dimming mirror power feed. I was lucky the t-tap was already installed -- was just plug and play for me.

You could use that line to directly power the Nuvi w/out the relay -- just be sure to fuse the line to the Nuvi.

Thanks but I need the wire color. I need to make sure it a source not a signal.
