Default Re: Fuel Filter

Many of the newer vehicles have the fuel filter in the fuel tank. It is usually not a PM item and designed for life of vehicle (life of the vehicle is 60K miles i.e. warranty period, after that u are on ur own).

Now in my other vehicle which was also designed to life. I removed it at 100K and it was ugly, so it is definetly a PM item in my maintainence logbook. 80K replacement seems reasonalbe if you are putting quality gas like Chevron/Shell/Mobil.. If you are put bargin gas into the tank you will get the filter dirty within 60K miles.

Not replacing the fuel filter is calling for trouble for the injectors, timing changes etc.

Good question and not sure that they do, with a little more info you might be able to find out if it's internal or external filter? Go to this link and add your info and it will pull up your highlander and you can look thru the diagrams and find your filter. If it's in the tank it will show up when you add your specific info on your vehicle. If you do not see it in tank it's probably frame rail mounted and i would say change it when ya do plugs? http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/
Could be it's in tank? would not bother unless ya really know it's clogged? http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/200...el_filter.html
