Default Seat Height - Avalon vs. Highlander

I am trying to help my 82 yr. old mother decide between buying a new Avalon or Highlander. She is interested in the Highlander, one for the accessability to items she may be carrying in the back, (plants, pots, dog food ect,) but more importantly to her for the height. She is thinking the higher seats may make it easier for her and her lady friends to get in and out of. (Don't worry she drives better then alot of us). Does anyone know the difference in seat height between a 09 Highlander and Avalon?
Thanks,
Jtapp

hmmm

I have an aunt who has a 2004 avalon and when i ride in it, its a car so the seat is not as upright as a highlander. with the highlander your pretty much sitting upright and your legs are not stretched. with the avalon, i found that my legs are stretched like all cars.

I too have a 70 year old grandmother and she likes my highlander, its upright and her legs don't have to stretch. but she does complain that its high and has to use the hand handle to get in and out.

my alternative is neither the avalon or highlander, just remember that older people move slower, have muscle aches and pain (arthritis), they want toget in and out. i have a friend who has a scion xb (the box like one) and i borrowed it one time. when my grandmother sat in, she loved it. its low height is perfect for her to get in andout and her seating position is exactly like my highlander. all she has to do is just turn and outstretch her legs. she does not have to worry about the height and losing footing when she steps out.

head to a toyota dealer they have the scion, avalon and highlander and you'll be amazed at the ease of egress in the scion xb

hope that helps

BINGO.... the xb is the fastest selling vehicle for older people I was told by my dealer. Toyota brought it out for the younger crowd, but it's so easy to get in and get out of they are selling it 3 to 1 to the older folks. I have a Highlander and a 97 year old Mother (not driving) and the HH is a little high for her to get into, out is not a problem. I brought home a xb recently, after she broke her 'other' hip and getting in and out was not an issue and she liked all the room. So if it gets where she can't get in my HH anymore I'll be getting a xb.

Thanks for the input guys. Unfortunately, we don't have a Scion dealer local in her small town and she is adamant about buying locally. Any other thoughts?

Your Toyota dealer should also be your Scion dealer, that's how it works in every other Toyota dealership I've been in. If not, have her consider the new Venza from Toyota, kind on in between an Camary and Highlander. The one I looked was nice, easy to get in and had lots of goodies available.
