Default 2004 4 cyl. Timing chain?

I just called the local Toyota dealer and asked how much it would cost to replace the timing belt. I have 73,500 miles. They said it has a chain and it does not need to be replaced. Is that correct?

Anyone have recommendations for maintenance? Is it time to do a tune up? Is it worth doing any of my own maintanace or pay the $498 for the 60K service?

Thanks in advance Bill

60K schedule is a major one. I imagine that being at 73k currently...that yu want to update as much as possible to stay in schedule???

There is no "engine tuneup" per se at this point in the schedule.

I would recommend changing the PCV valve however. Easy enough to do.

Everything else yu should do as per the 60K.

Do yu have FWD or 4WD??? If 4WD then change out the rear diff and front X-case fluid, 1 Qrt in each. Info on type/grade fluids are in the owners manual. I use Mobil 1 syn 75w90.
Rear diff is easier than the front X-case. Yu can do it.

I also would drop the tranny drain plug and replace that fluid. Approx 5 qrts. needed. Use OE T-IV fluid ONLY. ( or whatever fluid spec. the Trans dipstick is stamped with.)

Also Cabin filter check engine air filterreplace if needed.

Do an OCI and the other normal stuff..tire rotation etc.

Do a visual of the brakes/brake fluids check all other fluids PS Coolant etc.

In addition I bleed/flush brake lines every 2-3 years. Good insurance against ABS actuator failure and brake fluid retains retains moisture over time so this flush is important for all the brake components.

I also use a hand pump to empty the PS fluid in the reservoir and replace with new I do this twice/ three times within a week... purge out any sediment and varnish build up in the rack. I use M1 syn tranny fluid that says compatible with power steering units.
Basic PS fluid is fine also.

Yu can do all this stuff.
