Default Whats this cut out for

2004 regular highlander- inside the back of the car, on both side walls near the lift gate is the "air vent" outlet slots.- where air can leave the car. right below these slots , on the horizontal ledge , is a rectangular area about 1 x 3 that looks like some piece of optional equipment could be mounted- like some of those blank spaces on the dash- they have a slight outline around them- sorta like cut here.
what are these cutout imprints for??

I have a 04 HL Ltd. I think you are talking about a rectangular ring to hook a cargo net.

This cut out is not cut out now though. Is the cargo net some option that gets the cut out, cut out??

If yu don't have the third row seat option. I believe yu are are referring to the third row seat belt stays. They are plugged up when yu don't have 3rd row seat belts to place in there.

BTW, if equipped with the 3rd row option, these retainers are flawed in that they don't retain the seat belts. The belts always pop out after a few bumps in the road. Then the belts rattle against the pillar as yu drive. I'm sure others will chime in and agree on this.

Toyotas are not perfect. No car is.

I agree, the belt holders never did work worth beans! Easier just to leave the belts in the 3rd row seats when you fold them down!
