Default Decelator sensor and YAW Rate sensor

The VSC light on my 2003 Toyota Highlander 4WD, V6, goes off immediately after I start the engine but comes up again as soon as I start driving. My garage guy reckons $800 plus P+L for the decelerator and another $100+ for the YAW. The vehicle has 79,000 miles on it so I am afraid the manufacturer's warranty won't cover it.
Has anyone else has similar problems? Are the reapir estimates reasonable?

Many thxs in advance.

"My garage guy reckons $800 plus P+L for the decelerator and another $100+ for the YAW."

Why is your shop charging $800..then charging yu for Parts...then charging yu for Labor????

What is a decelerator?? Never heard of this.
Yaw rate sensor @ $100!!! Is that labor or price for the part? Is it even broken for sure? Something is amiss here!

Has he actually diagnosed the problem? Why is he going to replace two components. Does he know where to start diagnosing?
Trial and Error by replacing parts will be expensive.

My gut feeling is that he never did this kind of work before!

It just doesn't seem so!

I would get a quote from a Toyota dealer that is more specific. A Dealers Toyota Scantool will diagnose the problem correctly and without guessing!

Your post is not clear enough. All I can see is that yu have a VSC DTC problem.

There have been other posts here regarding VSC. Did yu read them??

Thank you LifeTech for your response.
I obtained a printout of the diagnostic check. It indicates the need to "reapir or replace harness or connector for:
1. PNF switch and skid control ECU and ECM), and
2. Decelerator sensor - skid control ECU.
I am, obviously, neither a mechanic nor an electrician but will heed your advice of getting it checked by a dealer.

Thxs again

VSC is generally best serviced by the dealer. They also have the ability to reset the ABS/Advics ECU Independent shops rarely have the experience and tools to repair this. From my experience...the Yaw rate sensor, located under the front passenger seat, near the door, is usually not the problem.

It's your call. And at least yu are honest about your knowledge of the aforementioned.
The more yu read and understand about VSC... will put yu in a better position for selecting who repairs your HL.

Good luck.

That's not a printout of a diagnostic check. All a diagnostic check will give you is codes. It would be helpful if you could give us the codes. Shops will use a software product to take those codes and give troubleshooting/repair steps. That's what you have.

If it were me, I'd go pay a dealer for a proper diagnosis. That's just too much money to throw at parts. A diagnosis might be a 75 dollar gamble you loose, but it might save you 800 bucks on a part you didn't end up needing.

Based on a few other issues I've seen on this forum, including one this week, I'd take off all four corners and look for anything obvious. There are two wire/hose/lines running to each wheel. One is thick and is the brake line. One is thin and is the VSC wheel sensor wire. Maybe one is loose/unattached/broken. Then a new computer was a blown 800 bucks. I'd also go under your front passenger seat and disconnect/reconnect all the connectors there. Make sure they're seated well. Make sure nobody's purse/foot/whatever broke a wire or pulled a harness loose.

I'm not saying you're not going to a good shop. What I'm saying is that they probably don't even know where the yaw sensor is on this particular vehicle. They probably hooked it to a computer, got some codes, and start ordering parts. They can't be an expert on every vehicle, nobody can. At least a Toyota dealer has a higher likelyhood of having seen this vehicle and the particular problem. You can even take their diagnosis somewhere else.

Did you change the battery recently? or have any electrical issues?
You can check the codes without the Toyota scan tool.

The schematics and description of operation may help understand the interoperability of the vsc and related components:

Hope this will shed some light.

Default Re: Decelator sensor and YAW Rate sensor, VSC, TRAC and other lights

I have a similar problem...following this thread for a possibe solution...my VSC, TRAC, ABS and BRAKE lights have come back on after just having it repaired at a local shop...they replaced the brake sensor near my brake pedal, and this worked for two weeks....then when I hooked up my sailboat to tow to a regatta, it came back on....Codes are 1223, 1224 1226 according to the repair slip....is there a place I can go to understand these codes? Tired of this problem...related to towing as both times it has come on when towing my 1500lb boat and trailer...
