Default air filter -we need a video

Maybe its me 2004 v6- I have real trouble with changing the air filter
- the clips fall off
- the firewall side center edge of the air box is hard to get back into its holder and
the filter seems to stick out in that same place.
its also hard to slide the new filter in even after taking off the battery holder clamp
what am i doing wrong?

Honestly, I just can't imagine where yu went wrong.
But yu did it wrong in any event.
How did the clips fall off ???????????

Sorry.. I'm no help. Yu need someone to show yu or a video like yu stated.

I find it easy to do.

does the air filter go in from the fender side
or
from the front (over the battery on the v6)?

Just make sure yu do not disconnect any adjacent vacuum lines or yu will trip the MIL.

You said "The cover will come off-"
what do you mean?- the cover on mine will lift up more on the fender end of the filter box- because the other end is held in place mostly (less movement allowed) by the big rubber intake hose- right? or are you taking that intake hose off? You mean lift the fender end up enough to side the filter in? Right? NOT take the whole cover off???

The air box cover must separate completely from the bottom to get out the old and put in the new filter.
The side opposite the clips appears to be a hinge but they are just tabs that slide away toward the fender. The top cover must be separated completely the remove and reinstall. This is your dilemma I believe.

It would be naturally easier if yu remove the rubber intake hose the first time to examine the setup...but it is not necessary.
But with the hose disconnected things will come apart much easier.

Don't be afraid to bend the rubber hose and pull up the cover. It seems tight but it will flex enough to install.

Can't really describe better than this. The first time I did it, I examined it well... but now I can do it rather easy.

So can yu.

Thanks - I have done it twice- I undid the 4 clips and pulled the fender end up toward the hood enough to slide the filter in (bending the intake hose to do it). I think thats what you are saying, not take the whole top off - as in take it off and sit it on a bench.
thanks.

I still think its not one of Toyotas better designs

I would agree that after all the Toyotas I've owned as well as worked on...that this airbox was not thought out well.

Good luck

Agree - several other things too
poor back up lights
- remote key fob has such light springs on the buttons that keys in your pocket sets it off
=- excess wind noise
- air cond has no hot water shut off valve

I also agree about the poorly lit Reverse lights.

I didn't order the Sink option so I don't need the "hot Water Shutoff valve"

The hot water shut-off valve on most Ford trucks is located right behind the p-trap. This is so the mice can take showers in the morning.

Having no "coolant mixing valve" is actually a better design allowing better cabin temp control. The mixer is kind of an old design that Toyota stopped using in the late '80's. There is better control using a Hot/Cold mixing damper. And the heater core will stay filled and flushed with constant coolant giving much better longevity to this H. core.
