Default Battery Changeout

'05 v6 highlander with original battery - purchased new september 2005

Feel it is getting time to replace the battery. Based on feedback it sounds like "interstate" batteries is the way to go.

QUESTION: If I replace it myself is there any kind of electronic or computer chip reset I have to be concerned about?

thanks in advance for any answers.......

the radio presets will be reset.

If you have a sunroof, I believe there is a re-initialization process (I've never researched this, I just know there's a decal under the hood near the battery on my HL).

Other than that, invest in the little felt washers, clean the terminals, and you're good to go.

FWIW -- I have a small trickle charger I use on another vehicle for winter storage. Whenever I change out a battery I use the charger to keep some voltage on the car's (battery) connection cables. Avoids having to do any resets or reprogramming of the radio and other things. Just have to be careful not to touch the + connection to the car's body ground (ie., wrap in a rag or plastic).

Interstates are good but
Save your money ...I did not replace the Panosonic battery in my 2001 4Runner / 62k miles until about six months ago. I could not find a Panosonic replacement anywhere....went with NAPA. My recently purchased 2004 Highlander /58k miles still has the original Panosonic.....and I'll bet it's good for a few more years... in our western WA climate.

I'm still running the Panasonic in my 04. If anything, have a shop load test it, but I wouldn't replace it for no reason (then again I'm cheap).

Ran into this problem about a year and a half ago when we changed the battery in our 05 HL. After changing the battery, hold the sunroof open/close button until it opens and closes fully. That will re-initialize the system.
