Unhappy HIghlander GPS

I have a 2007 Highlander Hybrid with an in the dash combination navigation/audio/heat/ac unit. The GPS has gotten funky - vehicle icon jumps to the edge of the screen, odd addresses appear, and the unit beeps. Dealer says replace it with a reconditioned unit for $1675 or with a new one for ~ $6ooo. Is there a better solution? Will updating the nav system cure the problem?

Default Re: HIghlander GPS

updating will not solve the problem.

But what component did the dealer say to replace. the NAV dislpay or the DVD rom reader under the drivers seat???? If they could not be specific especially with those prices quoted ,I would run not walk away from that dealer.

I know these items are always $high.$.. but the dealer should be more specific on the actual components. If they are not being specific enough they are guessing without actually diagnosing the Nav sys. And this dealer just wants to be a parts swap shop at your expense. Many do this.

Just not the way to approach this.
I have an 06 non Hyb HL with Nav and never experienced this. But I know there is a supplemental NAV service manual that dealers should have for it. I have seen it at my dealer. Toyota trains techs on this component from time to time. But your dealer may not have that one tech guy who knows.

Not all dealers are trained inn specialty areas of Toyotas.

Good luck
