HighlanderGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid.
This is a discussion thread titled "Whistle / Squeal on '03 Highlander", within the Highlander forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
My Co-worker has an '03 that has a speed induced whistle noise. Brought to dealer 2 times and they hear it but can't find it. He found a different site that a couple owners had the same deal and turned out to be bearing / driveshaft seal on right rear. He's going back next week, just wondering if anybody here had this problem?
Our 03 highlander v6 awd had a faint whining/whirring noise from the right rear when going at low speeds, whether speeding up or slowing down. there is definitely a tsb on it. right rear axle seal needs replaced.

My 06 4wd Highlander purchased on Aug, still have this "distant siren" noise, it comes when you slow down speed from 25m/10m range.
Dealer adv it is normal, which the noise speaks for itself. It is weather releated, others posts say "inner seal" problem, when wet it sounds less, when dry out in good sunny day, it is louder.
