HighlanderGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid.
This is a discussion thread titled "rear seat dvd system-opinions?", within the Highlander forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
My wife has an 03 highlander limited w/ the sunroof. I would like to install a rear seat dvd entertainment system for our young'un. If I go with the roof mounted system, I was wondering if the LCD screen would be too far back for the rear passengers to comfortably view.
Also, is the Toyota DVD system for the highlander more/less difficult to install (either myself of professionally) than the other aftermarket systems out there? I have considered dual screens mounted on the back of the front head rests as well. Anyway, anybody with highlander/sequoia's/4-runners etc w/sunroof, i would welcome your comments and suggestions

i went ahead and ordered an overhead system from bestbuy and will have it installed tomorrow. it is an audiovox w/ 6.8" screen and the player will mount under the seat. would have went with an all in one unit, but even when folded up, it would obscure vision thru the rear imo. i'll let you all know how it turns out!
hope to get the factory unit on my tundra doublecab!
We bought a portable 9" DVD player, and a suspension system. The suspension system fits perfectly wedged between the two front seats of the Highlander, so you don't have to use the straps to hold it in place. The suspension system also works as a storage case for the DVD player. The nice thing about a portable DVD system is you can bring in on a plane or to your hotel room while traveling. It has A/V inputs for video game systems, like PlayStation or Xbox. You can also hook it up to a TV that has A/V inputs.
Here's the DVD player we bought, although you can get it much less than this place sells it for if you search over the Net:
I forgot to update the board on our dvd install. The Audiovox player is very nice. The player installed in the glove box....very small unit, does not take up much space. The screen instlled overhead without cutting the headlliner, just had to remove the dome light. The bezel was modified to fit the contour of the headliner. Overall we are satisfied with the quality of the player and install. Was bought and installed at best buy.
WOW!! I was about to post to this Thread but I just realized it is THREE YEARS OLD!! LOL....But anyway on the subject of rear seat dvd systems I went with the Vizualogic with the dvd player is in the side of the headrest. The dvd can play threw the wireless headphones it comes with or threw the speakers. You can click on the Camera and take a look at the pictures I took of my setup. Johnnny
