01 highlander would come out of park until warmed up

any ideas of why this is happening i know its not the interlock brake switch

i ment wont come out of park until its warmed up

We have that problem. Can't push the button on the shifter sometimes. I either push or pull the shifter and/or repeatedly push the button and it will go in eventually. I don't have to wait for it to warm up or anything, just takes 10-15sec. It only happens when its cold, my guess is that the cold causes the cable to contract or something. It's not that bad so we live with it.

I know this is an old thread but my wife's 02 just started doing this. Cannot get out of park until it warms up. The past couple of week have been cold. Anybody know what would cause this. Thanks
