Default Highlander 3rd Row Seat Removal

I have no need for the 3rd row of seats in my 2004 Highlander. Are they removable and is there something that can be put in its place to span that area and allow for usable storage underneath like the 2 row seater Highlander?
How about another cup holder, Ha Ha just a thought.

yes, but there is a lot you have to remove to get the seat out. There is a procedure outlined in the Service Manual - 2004 HIGHLANDER REPAIR MANUAL (RM1086U)

There's no practical way to add the seat from the '04 and later to the earlier models without some major cutting and welding, I'd think, since they have different back seat mechanisms, different trunk floors, different trunk underfloors, and different heating systems, to name a few.

The seats aren't sold seperately as an option for '04 and later, nor as a refit to my knowledge.

I JUST bought an 05 and I can say that after looking at the 2 row and 3 row models that there really is NO extra room in the 2 row model?

2002 H/L doesn't have the spare tire relocated outside underneath the rear chassis. It is inside the rear as yu know.

04-07 it was relocated there in an effort to offer 3rd row seats.

To the rear of the H/L there were other changes to accomdate the 3rd row. If yu had only a 2 row 04-07 yu would be able to blot the whole 3rd row in. Alot of hardware besides the actual 3rd row must be purchased. I checked out my 3rd row and it is very involved to remove. But unequipped 3rd row models do get a compartment in its place. I would consider more valuable to me.

The 3rd row is very tight in legroom. and to use it effectively the 2nd row must be slided forward reducing alot of legromm for middle row passengers. I feel the H/L 3rd row is not all thst. Great in a pinch when yu havr that 1 kid going along with a fully packed up H/L. But 99% of the time it is folded down. I value my cargo space. Also when the 3rd row is up yu can't even fit say a folded up stroller behind this 3rd row.

Serious.

goodluck

Has anyone removed the 3rd row seat on a 2008? It appears that several additional cu ft of storage would be gained.
Thanks

I have an '04 Highlander with 2 rows only (no third row). I bought it used, but specifically made sure I got one without the freaking 3rd row make-believe seat, because you get a lot o' useful space underneath the floor with the 2-row model.

I love my '04, but want a bit more room, so am thinking about shopping for a used 2008 Highlander within the next year. As before, I would like to find a model without a 3rd row make-believe seat, but I suspect they are hard to find. Checking the specs online for the '09, I see it is a delete option on the Sport model, with a credit of $740, But I don't seem to find it as a delete option on the Base or Limited models.

Has anyone ever seen a 2008 or 2009 V-6 model without the third row toy seat?

And as someone else asked above, does anyone know how involved it would be to remove the 3rd row seat? And does that still leave a substantial floor if you do that? Or does the back of the seat become the floor when folded down, so if you remove it you end up with a big hole in the cargo-area floor?
