HighlanderGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid.
This is a discussion thread titled "Highlander Mystery Studs", within the Highlander forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
putting on my trailer hitch tonite - on the underside of the frame rail that the hitch mounts to
are spme threaded studs that hang down.
one on the drivers side, and two about 3 inches apart on the passenger side
they are about 2 ft forward of the bumper and about 1/4 inch in diameter and 2 1/2 inches long.
there is nothing on them
what are they for?
I was wondering that too. My first guess is that they are related to Lexus RX330 items??? Hey edward, were you surprised to see heater core tubing going from the engine all the way back to the right rear? Sounds like you are running 1 week behind me; just finished my hitch install and wiring - works GREAT!

the two studs (and they are only 1 inch long each) are right above the front top edge of the round back muffler.
they are about 19 inches forward of the bottom of the exterior back bumper covering.
passenger side has two studs
drivers side has one stud
studs are threaded.
and look spot welded onto the fore and aft frame rail that the hitch bolts go into.

I have searched out lot of all the highlanders
None of them have what you are describing, i am puzzled
Did the place where you had the hitch installed add them?
Does any else have these?
I am still diggin for answers

I was working under my tundra and found these same spot welded nuts as well. Don't have a clue as to what they are.
Those spot welded nuts are for factory hitches to mount to.
I am still searching for the "STUDS" as edwardh1 was asking about.
I was wondering if he meant welded nuts?

I sent a message by e mail to you just now asking for your e mail address. - a friend took some dig snaps and will e mail them to me pm today .
they are not nuts.
they are threaded bolts (studs) a little bigger than 1/4 20 size. they hang straight down. end on the car is welded to the car, other end is "open" - you could twirl a nut onto it.
maybe you can tell from the pix. they are not near big enought to be part of the suspension or even a shipping tie down.
i now have the pictures if anyone can give me an e mail address -I am not a member and can not post them, but perhaps someone else could help out and post them. thanks.
they are not in the way of anything- just look unused - makes me wonder if my new car is missing something.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to syphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
