Default How to you wash your Highlander?

We just got a new 2004 LTD Highlander. This is our first suv. I have not had a chance to wash it yet, but is looks like I am going to need a latter or something to wash and dry the roof. Just wondering if anyone has developed any good techniques for washing these vehicles.

Congrats - you will enjoy. Being 6'1 I can reach almost all of the roof by standing on the tube steps. Before I installed the tube's, I used a rubermaid stool. I currently use the Mr. Clean car wash system, which eliminates the need to dry. It does a very good job. You can do a search on this site and find plenty of threads about it.

u don't have car washes?

On a side note there a new car wash around here thats fully automated, no people at all, you go into this garage like structure and a robot arm goes around your car spraying it with high pressure soap and water, there is no conveyor belt and no brushes at all. Then u pull up under this big drier, does a crappy job though.

I used to use those carwashes and payed 3-4 dollars a wash especially at night... Now I know why it is so cheap... those damn carwash brushes and clothes scratch the hell out of your paint and clearcoats. My last car a '99 Mustang GT was ruined... Since I have had my Sequoia I only have them hand washed and its worth paying 20.00 dollars for it.

I use a plastic milk crate, kicking it as i move down the roof. also a convient seat to clean wheels.
I use the 2 bucket method, MF towels & mequiars gold car shampoo. & a quick detailer application after the wash.

washing car article

All depends how fussy you are about the finish, a good wash will take 30 to 40 mins from wheels to roof, less if you cut corners (like the roof, who sees that?).

anyway, 1-1/2 hour per weekend, weather permiting, can keep this car almost perfectly clean, in & out
