Default Moonroof rattles

I have a 2001 Toyota Highlander V6 4WD, and within the past year or so the moonroof has started making sounds. This is when it is closed, with the sliding cover open. During acceleration or braking, it 'clicks' (at first I thought it was a headrest in the back seat). I'm thinking it could be shifting somewhat in its mounts... Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and if so, what the remedy is - quick fix at the dealer? The moonroof still operates normally. Haven't noticed the sound with it open (but that could just be the wind noise masking it).

Mine also - Toyota has a TSB for this. NV014-01. I didn't see it in the Highlander TSB library here. I have attched it.

NOTATION - The TSB can be found by clicking under your vehicle at the top of the homepage. Please do no post TSBs, which are available to Club Members, on Open forums. If you have any questions please let me know.

Default Moonroof Rattles on 04

I have noticed some rattles as well since I performed the moonroof intialization. I only hear it when the roof is closed and the interior cover is open. I would like to see the TSB NV014-01 but cannot find it in the TSB listings. Where exactly is it ??

All right, change your vehicle from a 2004 to a 2001 Highlander on the main forums page under "Your Vehicle" by clicking "Edit Your Vehicle."

Then click on the "Find Service Bulletins Available For Your Vehicle!" link, located on the main forums pages near the top under "Your Vehicle."

It appears only to be applicable for the 2001 Highlanders and is called "Moon Roof Molding Creak" created on December 21, 2001. I would surely think Toyota would have fixed it in almost 3 years. That is the correct TSB number also.

Remember, change you vehicle back to 2004 when you are done.

Thanks I was able to see the TSB. I agree with you that it should be fixed for the 04's ! I'll keep an ear open for it and post a note when I resolve it.

Try tightening the roof rack bow screws (if equipped).
They make tons of noise that travel thru out the vehicle and are known for coming loose.

Roof Racks can make a ton of noise if not tightened or installed correctly.

Ever try taking them off for a cleaner smoother look? Heck, even to see if the noise goes away.
