HighlanderGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid.
This is a discussion thread titled "Navigation System Help", within the Highlander forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
those $5 wal mart rand mcnally road atlases look better all the time.
I thought the same way until we bought this used Camry that happened to have it, it's amazing to an old guy what the thing knows and can do, That female voice telling me what to do and when I screw up is just like being at home. The price was right on the car and the Nav just turned out to be a bonus.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to syphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
I wonder if there will ever be a patch or upgrade to get rid of this thing?
It is there for legal reasons. They are not about to remove it just because it's a nuisance.
Regarding the updates and dates of things, I found on my 2004 Highlander (purchased in late August) that the Nav DVD seems to be an '03 or thereabouts.
I know it's out of date with some POI information regarding stores that I know have been out of business for a year or thereabouts.
I figure it's worth updating the software on a 3 year basis.
So what is that device..i would like to get one....and also a lot of other options get disabled while driving..for example the disabled cd tracks view which i think is much easier and safer as compared to the 'scan' option which is enabled while driving. Also another thing that irritates me is while i am driving , i cannot add destinations. I need to pull over and then only i can add destination.....Can someone help me with this..personally, i agree with the safety concepts but what if the passenger wants to play around with the cool options that are available on the navigation touch screen ?

It is not worth the $250 for a new map DVD.
No noticeable improvemnts have been observed on these update DVD's. The data added is mundane and useless to most people and not even noticeable. Do yu really need to know where that new WaWa is located?
BTW once updated it is not reversible. Some people lost control of the "service screen" with a new update. If yu don't know what this is, then yu won't miss it though. But it is very useful to those who know about it and use it.
