How to find the speed sensor wire for 80DVD Navi install?
Hi, I would like to know if those who installed a navigation system before know where or how can I find the Speed Sensor Wire so that I would be able to tap into to properly detect the distance the car travel when installing the Pioneer 80DVD Navigation unit?? I am doing this for a 03 toyota highlander.

It is located at the ECM module behind the glovebox. My wife as an 02 and I believe that it is no different. It is Red W/White stripe Pin #22, of a 28 pin plug. There is only one plug that has 28 pins in it. If I am not mistaken it is the second plug from the top. Good luck!!
I'm a fairly savvy techno-geek, and for the life of me, I can't get the navigation system truly set up. I use it easily for destination directions, but even setting up my home profile has been a challenge. It says I need to do it in memory point. The page regarding memory point it not matching what the screen looks like. What the hell is memory point?
I sit in the car, walk through the manual and go to the screens it tells me, and yet when I get there, sometimes some of the icons are greyed out. I find that the manual directions often do not match the places they are sending me to. It has become very frustrating and lots of swearing goes on each time I try this.
Is there anyone out there really using this system, and if so, did you figure it all out from the manual? Maybe I need to somehow clear the system and start over.
If you found any other literature out there, I'd appreciate it.
I don't have the NAV system on my Highlander but on my other car, It wants me to enter my home address as destination 1 or point 1. Might be the same on the Highlander NAV. Good Luck.
You need to go to Menu, then My Places, then Register under Memory Points. Make sure you are in the right Search Area. Then press Address (assuming you want to enter it by address) and enter your house number, street, etc. You will then get a Memory Point screen. Touch Attribute and then the home bar at the top of the page to set this address as your home. You can also select the Icon you want to represent your home on that Memory Point screen. When you have those two items set, push OK on the Memory Point screen.
Does anybody know if the beeping sound that the Touchscreen on the NAV/Radio/Climate system makes when you press it can be turned down or off???
I know that the voice guidance can be turned down....but the beeping sound when you change the radio station, change climate settings etc.....it is loud. I wish I could turn it down or get rid of it!!!
The beeps drive me crazy also. I have checked the manual and looked online and cannot find any way to disable them. From what I can tell, the Lexus vehicles are the same way. It is definitley a problem...
I wrote to DENSO and Toyota. THey both responded and said that the beeps cannot be turned off or volume adjusted. They apologized and Toyota said that they have assigned my thoughts to R & D for potential future implementation. Here is Toyota's response:
Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.
We appreciate the opportunity to address your inquiry.
We are sorry; the beep sound on the Navigation System of your 2004 Highlander cannot be adjusted.

Anyone figure out yet how to get rid of the disclaimer that comes up on the touch screen everytime you start the car? It's basically an "I agree" button that you press to start the system and go to the map view. I was pretty sure there was a way to turn it off so it just starts on the map everytime, but I haven't yet found it in the options menues.
Thanks!
you would think after the first 500 or so readings of it the driver would get the idea!!!!!!!!!
they did not focus group test it - must be a puter geek idea.
You can thank the legal profession and a populace that can't accept responsibility for their own actions for that screen. Now everyone has to error on the side of caution so far to the left it's ridiculous.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to syphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
I was reading in the manual that they update the software every year at the dealership. I wonder if there will ever be a patch or upgrade to get rid of this thing?
I will definitely bring it to their attention when I go in for an oil change in the next couple of weeks.
I found when we bought our 03 Camry with Nav that they don't update every year, at least Toyota doesn't seem to. My 03 has a 02 DVD software date and I'm waiting for a 04 or 05 version before I spend over $200 for an updated DVD. At least it's just one DVD instead of multible CD's like some manufacturers have to cover the US and Canada.
