Default License Plate

Just purchased a new Red HL for my wife today. As we inspected it I was reminded that Toyota doesn't make it very easy to mount plates that won't scratch the heck out of the body. I'll probably put some foam stick ons for the back of the plates, get a plastic frame, and attach carefully, but I was wondering if any of you have better solutions.

CA...agreed. that is a pretty crappy "solution" for the license plates. Our Highlander looks like someone drilled thru the bumper with a stick. Eventually, those threads will probably strip, then I'll have to put wall anchors or some other rig to keep the plates on. I used round rubber washers behind the screws and adhesive backed rubber pads at the bottom to keep the plate from contacting the bumper. I prefer a nice chrome bumper that can take a shot like my Tundra ;-)

Question Front License Plate

How do you mount a front license plate? My 2004 HL has 2 divots in the front bumper, but no threaded inserts and no easy way to get behind the bumper to attach a nut.

Use self tapping screws at the divots. Worked on my Tundra.

That's all that held my front plate on our 03 Camry also. First car wash pulled it loose. I drilled the holes through just the bumper skin a little larger and stuck a flanged plastic anchor like you'd hang a picture with in the holes and used SS hex head #14 tapping screws to hold the plate on. So far they've held quite well. The skin is all there is holding the screws because there's just hard foam behind it.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to syphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????

My HL just had the 2 screws drilled into the bumper, held the plate very tight, I took the plate off all together, easier to keep the front clean.
