Question Highlander Navigation Irritation

2004 Highlander-

Has anyone discovered how to allow changes to the destination while the car is moving?

My Highlander doesn't have navigation, but I have a friend with a Jag, and his will not allow changes while the car is moving. It is a safety feature so the driver is not distracted.

It is a safety issue that is not likely to be changed.

I find it aggravating as well, but in all honesty, when I'm moving, I should be watching the road and not trying to figure out POI information or the like while I'm in motion.

Yes it's an intentional safety failsafe mechanism. But,here is a procedure that must be performed at every engine startup to by pass this nusiance.

On the Nav.screen, go to menu and press Audio>then press top left corner >then bottom left corner> TWICE. If done corectly, yu will get a service screen. Press and hold the 'OVER RIDE button' until it highlghts and beeps. Touch No other buttons on this service screen!!!

Now, hit back button to return.

This will allow yu to adjust destinations while vehicle is in motion.

Bear in mind, once yu shut off the vehicle, it will reset to the normal failsafe mode again.

This info has been posted elswhere.

I just bought a new 2006 Highlander Base V6 with 3rd row seats. No factory navigation but asked Toyota dealer to install Eclipse aftermarket nav. It's standard Toyota policy to disable inputting address when the parking brake is off. When I'm driving and need to change destination, I put the parking brake on at a red light & change it quickly. Don't forget to release it afterwards. Annoying I know but you can have it permenantly disabled at any nav place.

Toyota wants to ensure that the vehicle is not moving . With the O/E Nav if I come to a stop Dets. can be entered. The aftermarket Eclipse is wired to the P. Brak. is a ground wire which can be rerouted to disable the safety feature.

Yes, go to volumn on the navigation unit and press the upper left hand corner with your finger, then the bottom left hand corner, back and forth between the top and bottom until the system changes to a maintanance screen. Press and hold the override button for about 5 secs and release, it should turn blue. Exit the screen with the back button.
