Question Over speed Problem

Has anybody ever noticed this in your car?
I am used to driving stick shift cars, so I have a tendency of moving the gearshift even in my highlander to Neutral N while stopping at lights and then to Drive D when the light turns green.

Here's where I see the problem.

As soon as move the shift to drive D without pressing hard, the gas pedal, my highlander tends to overspeed out of control for some time and I have to apply breaks. Then it comes to term.

Is this normal on any automatic Cars or is this something serious I have to look into.

Please need your thoughts and inputs.

Kevin's right.
When you pull the stick back into drive, it takes a second or two to engage into gear, then you can step on the gas pedal. I could imagine the lurching you get with the gas on, and you shifting into drive.
You now have a automatic trans,so you'll have to start driving it like one.
Try to keep the tranny out of neutral.

Default Thanks!

Thanks LX302 & Kevin7909

I will try driving that way.

I have driven other automatic cars but this one is too fast on this change D to N and then from N to D. It actually zooms if I move the shift to Drive from Neutral.

Thanks All!
