Default Fog lights 2004 Highlander

Hi , I have a 04 highlander. I read many posts on various forums and understood that 03 highlander doesn't come pre-wired for fog lights, whereas 04 does. Is this correct ?

Secondly, has anyone installed fog-lights to an 04 highlander by replacing the switch (headlight switch)? Many forums says to replace with 84140-20680 switch (which does not belong to highlander).

Finally, for the ones which comes with factory installed fog-lights, do they switch on ONLY when the headlights are on low beam? Cannot I switch the fog-lights on without switching the headlights?

Thanks,
Raj

The '04 does definitely. I'm not sure about the '03.

Yes. This is exactly what I did and that is the switch I used. It works just fine. See my post in this thread for instructions and part numbers. What I have in my Highlander now is exactly what would be in one that was bought new with factory fogs.

Correct. You must switch on the low beams to get the fogs to turn on. They don't turn on with the parking lights only or the high beams.

I ordered the parts http://www.toysport.com/2cContact.htm
thats the cheapest place I found (from original dealer only).
I shall post my comments once I get the parts and finish the installation.

Hi ibleedblue,

I read your instructions regarding the installation of the fog lights. Just one question, can i do without replacing the switch? If yes, is the relay a must do?

thanks.

If you want to go completely stock, then you definitely have to replace the switch. If you don't have fogs, the switch you have doesn't have the fog light switch built in. And, yeah, you have to add the relay as well.

Now if you want to go completely aftermarket then you would have to find a place to mount the aftermarket rocker switch. Aftermarket will likely come with a relay that you'll have to wire in. You always want to use a relay to turn on lights as opposed to direct wiring them. The relay for the factory look just pushes in place.
