Don't know if anybody tried this exact one, but many threads regarding magnetic drain plugs.

Quick search turned up:

SuperPlug -- Magnetic Drain Plug

Magnetic Drain Plug

oil change trick with skid row plate & magnetic plug

Magnetic Oil Drain plug

Hope this helps.

I've got magnets on my oil filter and in my drain plug and I find they both catch metal. To that's less metal to be floating around my engine needing to be filtered out.

Oh, too, I use synthetic and change my oil every 10,000 miles which is actually a little early since it has a lot of mile left in it, but I'm conservative.
