Default Backup Sensors

Has anyone had backup sensors installed? What kit did you use? How much was the kit? How much was installation? If you have any links.

Thank you in advance.

I have been installing Audiovox systems at work (Lexus). We used to install another brand called Guardian Alert, which was total garbage since the sensors kept going bad. The Audiovox systems have been working much better,we haven't replaced any sensors so far.

Wiring is fairly simple. For the control module you tap into the reverse light's positive wire and find a suitable ground. The sensors and beeper (or optional display) also plug into the module.

Mounting the sensors on the other hand requires drilling into your bumper. I put masking tape on the bumper, take a few measurements, mark the tape, then drill. We were given a special drill (basically a holesaw) to make the holes. A mounting sleeve is then pushed into the hole then the sensor snaps into the sleeve. Find a rubber grommet/body plug underneath your vehicle to run the sensor wiring into the vehicle and connect to the module.

Check out this site. They have systems that don't require drilling into your bumper and wireless receivers.

According to Consumer Reports:

If you want primarily a parking aid:
1 Grote $275, CR Best Buy
2 EchoMaster $275, CR Best Buy
3 Rostra $350

All three are sensor models. The Grote (1) is the most sensitive model we tested. It installs on the license-plate bracket and requires no drilling into the vehicle, so it is recommended for leased cars. The EchoMaster (2) wasn’t quite as sensitive. It is the only model we tested whose visual alert is optional. (The others had both audible and visual alerts.) The pricier Rostra (3) was the only higher-rated model not affected by inclement weather.

If you want an effective safety aid:
7 HitchCAM $800
8 Audiovox $400
9 HitchCAM $800

The Audiovox (8) has a large LCD screen that mounts on your rear-view mirror, so you see both images. Its display must be be turned on manually; shifting into reverse doesn’t activate it. Installation involves drilling. The pricey HitchCAM (7) mounts on a license-plate frame and requires minimal drilling. The HitchCAM (9) locks into a vehicle’s existing hitch to prevent theft. Its field of view doesn’t quite match that of the others.

I'm looking to get the AudioVox as well.

Default Re: Backup Sensors

I went with the Carsda.com which sells some styled parking sensor and wireless rear view camera, the quality is good. You can get the back up sensor installation from them.

Their site is : http://www.carsda.com , good luck !
